4.10 or 3.73 with 315 tires?
just talked to DC about my order stat. they said my truck just got it's VIN # today and is ready to be assembled in mexico......so nop I can't change my order
Your dealer must have one HELLUVA allocation.
That being said, I went with the Off Road Group - 4:10, limited slip. If I had gone 6-speed, I would have gone 3:73, which is what I have in my Ford.
pics posted in my gallery of truck with 315's installed. Have to go to Goodyear tomorrow and get them balanced. After being at AAFEES tire shop all night, they realized their machines couldn't handle the tires...long story, and outsourcing to Goodyear that specializes in truck tires.....

The 315's look great.I see you have the bushwhacker flares, do you remember what model they are?
Also I see you are using mud flaps- what about those? Are they made to fit the bushwhacker flares?
The black flares look real nice on the white especially with the black side molding.
WEXMAN:
I ordered on the 30th of january. The guy at DC gave me my VIN# and he said the parts to build my truck was allocated to my VIN. I dont know where it goes from here but I hope I can take delivery by March 31st where the $2000+0% finance expires.

Coolhand -
THat's great - you must be lucky, because you're the first one I've read who has received his VIN in a couple days.
No worries about the financing -
it is called Sold Order Protection - as long as you have a signed sales contract, you'll be OK, even if your truck is delivered after 3/31.
FWIW - I order on 1/17, my dealer is one of the largest Dodge dealers on the east coast, with a huge allocation - and I'm still in BG status.

wexman.... Ordered my truck 1/27/04, went to BX status, meaning all needed compenents were not available. Breezed through D status and went D1 yesterday morning. I was phoning my salesman to ask him to switch me to 4.10 gears when I was informed it was too late!
I'm going bigger tires, at least 285's, 315's if I can clear the garage which I won't know for sure until I get the red beast home. The stock demo Cummins I drove to the house in January did clear, though I didn't measure the difference.
Shouldn't lose much if I end up having to go 285's, a little nervous about dead standing starts if clearance allows 315's. Then there is the question of rubbing with 315's, which is a roll of the dice on each stock height truck.
Only downside I've found to the Gen 3's is the availability (as in zero) of aftermarket wheels with 6.25" backspacing and 122 mm center holes, as well as the limited availability of bigger 17" tires.
Never mind the horse is blind, just load the wagon!

315's not impressed
Ok they look sweet on truck but they still are not balanced, After AAFEES balanced again and realized the machine couldn't handle the tires, they sent me to GoodYear, who's machine couldn't balance either....GY Spun tires on vehicle but still have shimmy and vibration anywhere from 55-65...If I get past 65 it goes away. THen Hit a little bump and it comes back. It's also there as you're coming up to speed past 50mph.
IMHO you need to get away from the stock wheel and shocks if you're going to run these tires.
I'm going to have AAFEES take them off and try to find something in a 285 that'll work better.

They are an ok tire but too many come out of round- over .050" runout is max, any good tire shop should have a runout gauge.
My Toyo's took very little weight and turn true. No tire is perfectly round but they do need to be under the .050" or they will shake.
An option to keep them would be to measure the runout and replace the ones that have excessive runout.
I just came back from DIscount Tire. They have a pretty neat machine, the only one in the area, it measures the ride runout/balance, etc. They had to unmount/move three tires on the rims and balance, 1 tire is bad and cannot be balanced. So, I had to go back thru AAFEES to order another tire. WHen it comes in late Wed I go back to Discount Tire and have them mount and balance it...What a pain...
So, bottom line is if you're buying from the INTERNET, such as Tire Rack, beware...You may get a bum tire in the bunch....
OTher than that. it's raining again, contractor can't build the 20x22 pad for my new carport until it stops raining for a day or two, shot a 172lb Hog Friday night...
Have a great Texas Day!
