35s and H2 RIMS
35s and H2 RIMS
I know that the 315-70R-17 BFGs work on H2 rims and a stock truck. Is anyone running a true 35x12.50x17 on a stock truck with H2 rims and not rubbing? My truck is an 2005, 3500 shortbed and I'm looking at the Hankook 10 ply mud terrains in 35x12.50 x17, which is a little taller and wider than the 8 ply 315-70R-17 version. The truck will be used off road.
Have either of you actually measured the backspacing on the H2 rims? I hammered the point with the stock Dodge wheels until I got 2 people who *actually measured* the backspacing... one at 6.20" and one at 6.25"... close enough for me to be satisfied.
I believe the H2 wheel is 8.5" wide and the stock Dodge is 8", so the tire will sit out further 1/4" + the difference in backspacing (i.e: *IF* the H2 rim is 5.5" backspacing, the actual centerline of the tire will be 6.25-5.5+.25 = 1" further out with the H2).
We know from previous posts that the stock backspacing will rub on the control arms with these tires, and now from ptgarcia we know that they will rub on the fenders with the H2's, so the happy medium must be somewhere in-between.
Right?

i dont rub with the 315/70 bfg's, but i couldnt see them rubbing with another 1/2". you should be fine. with my lorenz kit i have plenty of room with the h2s and the 35s. im sure i could run 37s with some minor trimming.
Everyone I know that has H2 wheels w/ either Toyo 35" M/T's or BFG 315's have no rubbing on the control arms. W/ a level kit or suspension system also no fender rubbing at all. I will find out since I bought some H2 wheels off another member on this site.
I have the H2 rims with the BFG AT KO's 315-70-17 and the KORE Leveling Kit, No rubbing whatsoever, room to spare from the fender clearance fron/rear and also the control arms. They sit out about an inch further than the stock tire, right at the straight drop down from the fenderwell, I got power wagon flares to take care of the little bit of rock/mud throw. I also installed mud flaps as the tread is a little more aggressive and picks up small gravel tosses it at your rocker panels real good.

You can squeeze the 35's on with a stock truck, but since you say you are going to use it offroad I would at least get a 2-2.5" spacer if not a kit from,Lorenz,Thuren,Kore.
I have 35" Toyo on H2's with a 2.5" front lift and a 1.5" rear lift.

I use it hunting . Not hardcore rock climbing, looking for mud, etc. It gets driven off road every weekend & 2 or 3 times a week, but mainly mud, crossing fields ,beach, etc. What I'm trying to say is I don't go looking or planning on offroading like some.
