Re:26mpg
Must of been a long down hill grade
<br><br>I just made a trip in my HO 6 speed Dually with 4.10 gears empty. About 700 mile round trip, pretty much all free way except for going through Chicago
Any way we traveled between 70-75 all the time and it averaged 15.8 on the overhead computer, I didn't do an actually milage check. It gets about the same in my normal drivin around home. If I baby it and cruise under 60 it will get about in the 18.5 area. Also keep in mind that this is up north where it is in the teens all the time, and burning blended fuel. I was hoping for a little better milage, but I will live with it. 3.73's would gain 1-2 miles at most I think.

Re:26mpg
26 is very optimistic. I've seen 24mpg on the overhead computer display cruising about 55, but didn't cruise long enough to stop and fill the tank to confirm it. My experience is that my computer is a bit optimistic.
I'm running 4.10's. I'm thinking maybe your buddy was running easy on the highway with little wind or running with it and was reading 26 on the display. That wouldn't surprise me. I've seen 30 on my neighbors big Lincoln.
What would surprise me is if he calculated 26 mpg by filling the tank and dividing that into the number of miles traveled.

Re:26mpg
More details on his truck 2wd or 4wd,rearend ratio, lwb or swb,any kind of camper shell? Is he calcuating mpg by the overhead or with a pencil? It's possible but?? Best I have got is 21.? most of the time its been 20.?
Re:26mpg
I cruise 75 miles per day on freeway with 2 stop signs at either end. Pretty much on the flat. I drive 68-70 mph right about 2 grand RPMs with a 3.73 rearend. My truck is a 3500 dually 2 wheel drive and of course the quad cab and long bed. Stock without any tonneau cover or anything on the box. I get right at 21 mpg right now. I also have 5700 miles on the truck. When I got it, first tank gave me 20 exactly right at 600 miles right at 30 gallons. The last time was right at 600 miles again and 28.2 gallons or just over 21. I think 26 might be accheiveable with a 3/4 ton, six speed, regular cab 2 wd, 3.73 rear end, with a tonneau cover over the bed and driving at 55 mph if he has 12 thousand plus on the truck. I know if I drove slightly slower I could increase it a little myself. I want to get 23 at 70 mph by the time I get it broken in.

saw this thread and went to calculate my mileage. Last 5 tanks were between 21.9 mpg and 22.8. This is combined highway 75 mph and city. (approx 60-40 split) US mileage calculations. Warm weather (Florida). I shift lower rpms, don't honk on it too much. Quite happy with the mileage only 5k on the clock. I expect to be up over 25 when it has 15k on it. Over that at 55 mph. I have a hard roll tonneau cover and no bug shield, no mud flaps or any other wind catching devices on it. 3.73 rear gear, Michelin tires at 50 lbs, 2wd.<br>HTH

The very best I ever got out of my truck was 27 mpg... Imperial gallon (more to an imperial gallon than a us gallon) that was on a trip averaging 50-55 mph<br>There was one other time I think I got better, that was on a trip where I averaged around 40-45 mph <br>'93 w250 5 sp 3.55's stock tires...
Re:26mpg
I'm getting 13 mpg around town (lotsa stop'n'go) but around 19 on the highway - it'd be a lot higher if it weren't for winter fuel, my big cap, and my tendency to put my foot in it a lot. ;D Nothing like having the big beast up around 85 or so on the interstate!
Re:26mpg
Made a round trip from Northern Ohio to upper North Carolina, round trip 22.4 mpg (computer). This was all highway driving over some hilly terrain and traveling at speeds ~70 mph. The truck is 2wd HO 6 speed 3.73s. I also have cap on the back, which is level with the cab, that may help in wind resistance. This truck is very comfortable for long trips compared to driving a car.
