22.5 recap tires

Anybody running 22.5 recaps on the drive wheels? Price is right, but I don't want to look like Mr Magoo going down the road.I am worried about balance, and out of round. Also, anybody running 22.5's having wheel bearing/ball joint issues?

Haven't had any problems with recaps on the drive wheels, just won't use them on the steering wheels.

Have you had any problems with ball joints or wheel bearings because of the extra weight from the tire/wheel adaptor combo?

Not running them currently......never has a problem with them.....just heavier rolling mass=less fuel milage.

By going to the 22.5 my RPMS lowered and actually increased my mileage loaded and unloaded.

When I originally did ball joints The bearings hub assembly (or what ever you want to call it) wouldn't come out. Ended up coming out in pieces and the bearings didn't have much grease and had a burned look. So I went with a dynatrac kit. My ball joints have 25K on them and they are wore enough to have a little play. I will put in a new set this winter. 25K really isn't that bad considering what those miles consisted of

I would never buy a retread tire for anything!!

Guess again.....you may lower your gear ratio, but you increase your rolling resistance. Hope I'm wrong.

I have been running 22.5s for 18 months. Still no ball joint issues, but with the increased unsprung mass, failure is inevitable. Retreads are fine IF the tires don't get hot. That's when the vulcanization fails. Remember these tires have very thick sidewalls and when flexed at speed get very hot because they cool slowly. Continuous running above 80 MPH is risky, as none of these tires are speed rated. I have 4.11s and when I went with the 22.5s, I lost 1 MPG at speeds below 50 MPH, but gained mileage by 2 MPG above 60 and below 75 MPH.

3.73 gears and a auto trans would be a terrible combination for 22.5's
If you tried it with a G56 manual you would see differently.

Do you tow heavy with this tire combo?

If the tread ever seperates you run the risk of some body damage. I friend of mine has 35x13.5 tread sperate on and tore up his whole bed side. I have the retreads come off going down the high way and it is violent.
