2006 Quad Cabs

I just bought a brand new '06 with 6 miles on it yesterday. It shows to have a salvage title from New Hampshire, but once the hail is fixed, Missouri will issue a clean title, but it will likely say "Prior Salvage". Anyway, they have one left. It is the inferno red. Same as mine, 2500, Laramie, QC 4x4 Auto, etc... They are supposed to be getting in a Khaki colored one, and possibly another red one. They had 10. The place where I bought it is here in KC, and only sells salvage vehicles. Normally they sell wrecked stuff. This is not an advertisement for them, but if someone wanted to get a new truck and save $10K off what a dealer would sell it for, then give them a call. Their website is www.midwayauto.com Go to vehicles for sale, then obviously trucks. I can tell you that they sell quickly. I had waited around and the gray and white ones that I wanted were sold in 1 day. I bought this one and it had 2 people behind me. Hope maybe this helps someone.

Sorry, the black one is the one that I bought yesterday. It will have to have a new hood and 1 fender. The rest is all fixable. A good friend runs a body shop and says it will take $1,800-$2,000 to fix it (that is his labor basically free). I love having a new truck. I have a 2006 Kenworth with a 8.3 Cummins, and now my Dodge with a 5.9.

They had a megacab, but it sold same day they got it. The inferno red, is currently the only one that they have. They told me that the Khaki would be in any day. I think that they are getting a regular cab 2wd also. They aren't real helpful on the phone, I guess because they don't really need to be. They sell them regardless.

My previous CTD (2001) was a prior salvage vehicle . . . more or less the same thing. The other thing to keep in mind, though, is that when your title says "Prior Salvage" (which it will) that it'll affect your resale value. My 2001 was a sharp, sharp truck that looked very aggressive. When I put it out on the lot with flyers (and explained the prior salvage part of it . . . although it was completely fixed) I went through 46 flyers in less than 5 days. Needless to say of all those flyers only 4 people called. KBB and NADA values are based off of a clean title history, so it hurt the resale a bit. They are a great deal, though.

I know my buddy just bought one over in St. Louis (we're also from Kansas City) from a dealership that had hail damage. They didn't have to list it as a prior salvage, though. They fixed the damage themselves and sold it as "used", although it only had 50 miles on it - said they couldn't sell it as new if repairs had been done. Not sure if the difference is where the trucks come from after the damage (across state lines) or the extent of the damage, but his isn't a salvage title.

I'd take dated pictures of something like hail damage and show them to the buyer if you ever want to sell.
That's believable proof to me.

Price Dog, you are exactly right. The prior salvage will hurt the resale value of the truck. I have already done what Tomm recommended. I took pictures of every part of the truck showing the hail damage (which really isn't that bad), I took a picture of the odometer at the same time, and am going to keep all the receipts for the repairs. I really plan on keeping this truck for a long while, but when it comes time to sell it I want to be able to show why it was a salvage title.

Smart . . . that's the thing to do. If nothing else comes out of this (except a lead to a good truck price), hopefully folks will do that. I would think that'd have to help.

Call your insurance company and ask if they will knowingly insure a salvage titled truck - good luck.

lehall,

Nah, just the 2005 switchback. Shot both of the them (the '05 and XT) and couldn't tell a hint of difference . . . they're both so smooth and clean to draw. My buddy just picked up the Trykon too.

Insurance company was fine with it. They want pictures of the truck after the hail is fixed though.

I ended up paying $27,500 for the black one that I got. I had my body shop friend look at it yesterday and he said at most it will cost $2,500 to fix it with a SRT-10 hood. So I will have $30,000 in the truck. I looked around, I don't think that I could have gotten this truck any cheaper than $37-$38K at a dealer. It was $47,400 on the sticker.

You're probably right. I believe the sticker on mine was 47,240 or somehwere around there . . . it's a 2006 QC 2500 4x4 with the Laramie 2UH package. I also have the bucket seats. The only options I am missing are the sunroof and GPS navigation. With the employee price, rebates, etc. I got mine for right under 36,000.

There are guys on here that are buying new, non-salvaged trucks, for close to $10K below sticker with the deals now, like lehall mentioned. Add in the price to get a salvaged truck fixed ($2K and a friend is giving you a nice deal) then how much you'll lose on resale value whether you sell it in two years or ten years and it doesn't seem like a bargain.

Is there a ballpark figure for how less a salvaged titled truck is worth, say 10 or 20%? Anyone from a dealership have an idea?

Sold my salvage titled 2001 2500 4x4 5spd, laramie package, nerf bars, aluminum aftermarket wheels, Dayton MT tires, cowl hood, brand new clutch, lift pump and brakes, etc . . . for about 4,000 less than what I should have gotten for it. PPV was close to 19,000 and I got a little over 14,000 for it.

Thomas

EDIT: I bought it in 2003 with most of the above mentioned (minus tires, clutch, brakes, liftpump) with 118,000 for 17,100. Sold with 168,000 a little over 2.5 years later.
