2006 Headlight Removal?

What is the trick of removing the headlight on an 06? I thought it was just removing the two bolts on the inside and pull it to the front? Tried that and it will only wiggle a little but will not move forward. Any tricks?

How I do it...

They are in there pretty good!

Use extreme caution as to not bend the sheet metal...

Stick something small and flat in between the light and fender, just enough to pop it out...doesn't take much to get it to move or to bend the metal, tho!

A rag covering the metal is a good idea, also.

'06 have the hole in the inner fender also, look for a rubber plug directly behind the headlight, pull the rubber plug out to gain access to the bolt.

I used a wooden paint stirring stick to pry it free. I was very hesitant to pull hard enough as I have broken more than my share of stuff but you have to pull pretty hard.

You were right there is the third bolt accessible by the wheel liner. I removed it but problem is I dropped the nut in the bumper cavity somewhere. I spent 30 minutes and could not find it.

MADHAT,
I will try to get the FCA out today and put yours in. I changed all 3 fuel filters yesterday and no change to the erratic rail pressure. I will let you know.

Ok, man, good luck with that.

Park the truck on an incline and tap the bumper with a hammer...

Ugh, I dropped that bolt in my bumper as well, after about 20 minutes of looking, I went to Lowe's with my light in hand and just picked up a nut and lock washer.

Man I'm glad I'm not the only one that this happened to. The back of the bumper must be a black hole because I could not find it. The funny thing is I got another nut from my stash and did the same thing. There must be about 5 lbs of lost fasteners and tools all over my truck.

To keep from droping the nut, put a little greese in the socket. This will hold the nut in when you remove or put it back in place.

On my 06 I took the nut out from the wheel well and the 2 from the front, and then you have to pull it is tight, when I put it back in I just used the 2 in the front and left the nut off in the wheel well, they have been like this for a couple of years no problem, it is such a tight fit, seems fine.
