2003 HO stalling at Idle

When at operating tempature the engine will stall and the RPM's will drop to 500, than it will surge to 1100 RPM to keep from killing than back to 750 RPM. When it's not doing that at idle it will continously flextuate about 30 RPM, not to bad but it's not right. Brought it to a dealer and they didn't pick up any codes. They suggested that I have the injuctors cleaned, but didn't know if that would fix it. Anyone ever had this happen to them and what did you do to fix it? Please e-mail me if you can bl544@yahoo.com

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? You should do this more often than what the manusl says. I would do it every 5K mi., min.

Fuel filter every 5k or did I read that wrong? 15k for me and my friends who own these.UNLESS there is a issue such as the one posting and THEN it should be done as a start of diagnoising a problem.I bet injector cleaning won't fix nothing but lighten your bank account. Its GOT a problem.Fuel psi or sensor etc.

Sounds like your injection pump may be on its way out the door. I thought I remembered a few others describing your symptoms and that ended up being the culprit. I just did a search in the 3rd Gen Engine and Drivetrain forum for "injection pump" and found several threads where folks described the exact same problem as you. Dealer's fix was to replace the pump and all was good.

This is what I have done so far! Since the dealer felt it was dirty fuel that fouled the injectors, so I ran the tank close to empty. Went to a truck stop and filled it (high fuel turn over), took 33 gallons and added Diesel Kleen. After driving 200+ miles it's idlling correctly. Well for the moment anyway. If it starts doing it again I'll post a up date. Thanks for all the imput. PS: A dealer tec did tell me that a regulator valve in the fuel pump could be causing this problem and if so the pump would have to be replaced.
