06' 3500 TRX 4x4 First Drive
Picked up the special order 06' Ram 3500 4 x 4 this morning. For 04; and earlier owners, my first impressions/opinions over the 04'.
Power improvement over the 555 is very noticeable. Torque uplift great.
Seats better but still not as good as Fords. Firm washable cloth material.
TRX4 4x4 Option Package is practical. But red shocks on a 3500?
TRX4 4x4 Option (Protect Grp, 4x4 ESOF, LS, Grill Black/Chrome, A/Ts', Fogs)
TRX4 4x4 Logo on rear fenders replace chrome 4x4 emblem on tailgate.
Radio/6 CD changer improved with equalizer. Free year on Sirius.
Fake Dash Woodgrain is awful (IMO). Looks Dudeish.
3500 suspension feels better. For such a big truck handling improved.
Tow Haul O/D like the 05'. Will check for Rattlinram.
4x4 ESOF switch indicates 4Lock. Assume transfer case is same as 04'
Turning radius seems smoother with better accuracy.
Fuel Tank Skid Plate in additon to Transfer Case protection.
New Headlight reflectivity is a huge improvement. They Look good too.
Push light control button to activate fogs.
SLT larger cupholder folds down like 04' but lose the second smaller one.
More dash open storage shelving and padded crannies. Nice touch.
Control ***** downsized and a little more precise. Better dash illumination.
Red light in right center console for factory alarm.
They added more chrome badges. No reason for it.
Accessory Power plugs repositioned.
Improved Dash and Cowl over Instrument (Speedo/Tach) Panel
Auto Shift Arm Different Shape. Must have run erogonomics software.
Sealt belt chime can still be defeated but, mercy, that door ajar alarm.
Door pocket bottoms no longer flat. Why? Now maps won't lie straight/flat.
Floor mat kit looks cheaper than my 04'. I'd have made them better.
Fuel Mileage? Getting 15 mpg average at 100 miles on the clock. Worried.
After 70K of hard off road ranch work the 04' was fuel efficient and bullet proof. Never stumbled in some very demanding and remote desert mountain/Canyon back country conditions pulling 16K goosenecks. Only dealer visits were regular service. Nothing ever broke, leaked or stopped working.
The 04's durability, dependability and performance were just first rate. The 48 R performed better than I expected. I ordered another one. No rattles, body, or frame integrity problems. IMO the truck's a winner.

Good post,,,, so when do we get to see some pictures?
One question,,,, does the 06 48RE now have the Tow/Haul mode engaged with a single push of the button and Overdrive Lockout by pushing the button twice?

Rattleinram, good question. I'll try the Tow Haul tomorrow and post.
One other thing I forgot to post is they're shipping the Rugged Trails' again. Have the tires reversed to black wall. On the 04' they held up well for an off the shelf E rated BFG tire. After 20K they looked pretty sorry but didn't have any sidewall problems.
I prefer Toyo's Open Country but I don't think they have a green E rated 17" tire yet. Not many A/T 17" rated stock rim choices out there except for the Rugged Trails.

And, watch out for the hair trigger on the ignition i.e don't jump the wait to start. Doesn't take much to turn it over.
The 04 ignition was a grinder compared to the 06'.

Correction.
Sorry, the red light to the right of the speedo is the new factory alarm arming light. The wait to start grid icon is still there on the left.

Check with your local TOYO rep. The email I received back from them is that the TOYO M-55 (E-rated) is now out in 17 inch. I personnally have tested them on our company trucks and absolutely love them (16 inch sizes).

Ordered in September received last week November. Built in Mexico.
Depends on RR and trucking transport companies schedules/delays. They told me to allow for three weeks transport. Dealers have the software to track pretty close to where your truck is during manufacture and transport. Ask your dealer's order manager to do it for you. Forget DC customer asistance they were no help.
Also, have your dealer "Hot Tag" your truck when in comes in at the shipping yard. Normally they will truck it right over. I got mine in about 24 hours of arrival. Otherwise, on a heavy delivery day with several hundred vehicles being off loaded, you could be in for wait.
Good luck.
