05 trade in values ?

I have been contemplating trading in my 05 for something automatic and more room in the cab. I have been traveling to Houston a lot lately and that stop and go is killing my knee. I HAVE to HAVE a 6' bed or larger. In the 1/2 ton department the F-150 has slightly larger cab. I have looked at mega's but never sat in one before yesterday and it is SCREAMING BUY ME. The inside of that thing is huge!

Here is my dilemna. For the 2005 truck listed in my signature with 50k I have one dealership offering me $9k on trade

I have had 3 dealerships refuse to take the truck in on trade

I have a used car department offering me $14k on trade but only if I buy a USED vehicle. the new car dept. (same dealership same lot) won't take my trade.
This particular used car department gets 1 to 2 used MC's a week. they range from 20k to 40k in mileage and all seem to sell for $30k + or - a little.
I get a quarterly bonus sometimes next month. So, I could pay the difference I am upside down with what this dealer is offering me in trade. But would you trade an 05 with 50k for a Mega cab at these price differences.

The Mega I will buy will have a minimum of the following 4x4, bucket seats (no more flip up consoles for me), 6.7l (is this a wise choice?) & automatic.

Please feel free to give me your opinions good and bad.

your gonna hate the mileage of the 6.7 and be kicking yourself you traded the 5.9... I hear they make like 13 mpg unloaded.. between the increase in displacement and the regen its not pretty.. Dont get me wrong a newer truck is nice and I would love a non dpf 6.7 but thats not gonna happen so I will keep my mileage and power.

On another note.. the truck market is soft right now. They arent really moving at all.. It looks like they are taking advantage of that in your trade in so do it back.. Play hard ball with them.. im sure they will come down to move the truck you want..

I traded trucks with a friend of mine who has the 6.7 for a week because he need my gooseneck ball. His was mega cab, mine is a quad. I loved the space but my 05 is so much better in power, ac (I'm in Houston, very important),handling and braking. He now wants to find an 05. The mega cab was quiet and comfortable, very smooth ride. If I had to take a hit financially I would keep the 05.

They're killing guys on trade in over here too(when they DO accept a diesel for trade in), stay away from that 6.7L if you can(milage), I think they have the bugs worked out, but the milage will never hang w/ a 5.9L. You need to seriously consider keeping your truck IMO if possible. Good luck.

OK, Let's take fuel price out of the equaton. I don't pay for my fuel my company does. Plus, I should get the exhaust brake in the 6.7l.

If you have time, sell your truck outright and then go to the dealer with the cash.

truck market blows right now bro. i tried trading mine in probably a month and a 1/2 ago- wanted to give me $22k for it. yea she has 75k on her, but the amount of money i paid for her a year ago and the amount i put into her in that one year just didnt seem worth it to me. so i plan on buying something else cheap and running that. i figure i keep the miles off her for the next year- this time next year if the truck market rebounds, i should be able to break even. i can only imagine what they would offer me today for it... i was actually insulted when they said $22k.

at my dealership they're giving half of wholesale on trade-ins, for any large truck/SUV. they even have an additional depreciation for diesels! just think, a $6000 or so option is now costing you money at trade in- i'd keep the truck.

Don't take a hit w/ your current truck. Hang on to it as long as possible until things turn around somewhat. Everything goes into cycles (housing, fuel, etc...).

Also I imagine the used 6.7's laying around the lot at dealers. Most likely are problem child trucks that may have been worked on to correct a multiple times problems.

Like stated above. If your set on getting rid of your truck now. Sell your truck yourself (don't trade it in).

I was looking to trade mine in due to high fuel prices and I am no longer pulling a heavy boat. The trade in price for my truck dropped about $10,000.00 in less than 6 months. I'm keeping it. I've learned do slow down and when my wife is with me I have her drive. She is much smoother and gets better mileage than I do. I'm always in a hurry.

Gotta love all the "hear*say" evidence against the 6.7L's.

The fuel economy is not as good as most 325/610's, 305/555's, or many VP44 24V's. Increased power and cleaner air do take their toll.

Hauled this 1982 Jeep Renegade (6292 miles on the odometer) from Elkins, WV to Berea KY May 23rd.....on I-64 thru hilly eastern KY and also on I-79 in WV I managed 14.4 mpg (hand*calculated) on the trip back; 15.1 empty (hand*calculated) dragging a 2007 GatorMade 16+2 car hauler (1850 lbs empty). Relatively good for a 2007.5 RAM 3500 4x4 Laramie MegaCab IMO.

Not all 6.7L's are bad, nor do all get lousy fuel economy. I can go over to the 5.9L section as read as many heinous mpg reports on 325/610's as I care to search on.

As someone who drove Houston daily with a 2005 2500 6spd all I can tell you is keep it in 1st or 2nd and lay back in traffic and let her idle. Some folks get pissy about it but your going nowhere fast anyway. I see the big rigs doing this. Saves the left leg big time. And on a side note, my company sends me to Lafayette, Broussard, New Iberia, Houma and Harvey pretty regular. Want to trade?

the 6.7's definitely get worse mileage than the 5.9's. screw the cleaner air theory. it takes more imported oil (to make diesel fuel) to drive a 6.7 than a 5.9 because they get worse mileage. very very egotistical of us to think we are changing the climate since we have only had heavy industry in this country for 200 years -the earth has been around for 4.5 billion years!! we are nothing! we are so small on the universe map-we are just a hiccup! here today, gone tomorrow-just like 95% of species of animals, insects, etc that have become instinct over the millions of years, which had nothing to do with us.drive what ever you want to. if you want better mileage-stick with a 5.9

i thought about selling it outright. Downfalls are taxes. If I trade my current truck in I only pay taxes on Sale price of truck (I am going to buy) - Trade in = total taxable amount. I did find a dodge dealer here that would give me 14k for the truck . Bluebook is about 15 to 16K. I should have a quarterly bonus and if I can make me break even on the trade I will probably ditch the 05 now for a newer or new Mega Cab. The issue is not the cost of fuel but the amount of room in the cab.
If I could find a 1500 MEga with a HEMI I would probably buy it just for the life time warranty.

the way things are now, getting 14k on trade is great. my neighbor has an '06 mega, and it's got silly amounts of room- wish i had seriously checked one out before i bought mine.
