04.5 breakin time
04.5 breakin time
Next week my 04.5 3500 4x4 QC lwb CTD will arrive!!! Can't wait...This is my first Cummins and I have already planned my first trip. From Rhode Island to Tampa Fla. ( two days after delivery). My question is, How would all you Diesel heads break in the motor? RPM range Speed ect...
I asked the guy who delivered mine about break in. He said "Don't get crazy with the towing." I said I have a 13k trailer that I want to take on a 650 mile trip up to 8500 ft and back. He said "no problem, that's how you break them in." Of my first 5k about 4k was towing my trailer. I picked up about .5 to 1 mpg on each of my first trips. I spent over $550 on diesel in August alone.
vary your speed limit on the highway....60/65/70...do an hour at each and restart at 60....Front of owners manual will tell you the same thing....
Oh go down through Delaware on 13 S and across the Bay Bridge Tunnel through Norfolk....It'll cut 3-4 hours off of drive by bypassing Baltimore and Washington, but cost $10 to go across. After crossing the tunnel and coming into Norfolk, look for signs saying Chespeake/Portsmouth/Suffolk and head that way onto HWY 58 until you hit 95 again....Look at a map first...it's easy to go the wrong way around Norfolk and end up heading back toward RIchmond....
Good Luck...and enjoy the ride...
