Without a trace...
Ok gents, here it goes
I have been around snooping and pooping trying to figure out just how to place a programmer on a vehicle without a dealership knowing. Found alot of information but no programmer to fool it.
I'm currently in Slidell, LA on the oilspill and our on-site outboard mechanic was a mechanic for Cummins for approx 12 yrs.
Now not only does this make for hours of awesome conversation but he informed me that due to the 6.7's computer you cannot cover your tracks. When asked to explain this is what I got.
The 6.7 is designed to monitor anything and everything, from key turns to idle time, fuel consumption, rev limits, etc. It is possible to download your current state and reload it to "factory settings" but what you cannot avoid is the gap it creates. With simple math they can figure it out. Takeing an odometer reading, fuel consumption, average mpg, and idle time to see if the ECM has been tampered with. He advised that this is unavoidable at this time unless someone releases a chip to flash and manually enter new data.
Being fairly new to the 6.7 world I find this to be very understandable but hey I could have alotta smoke up my backside. If anyone has any knowledge on this subject, please lmk

He is right on the money...
One option would be to get an entire new ECM and use it, but then again, there would be huge holes in the data logging, the FBI calls that a clue.
Not to mention a tech with a good eye can tell if any hard parts have been removed and replaced.
Off topic, are you working this weekend, if not carry yourself home could use a hand pulling the stacks on the mega. And were in the heck is your application for Louisiana membership..... hmmmmm?????

Well it all depends which programmer you use.
The Smarty does not eliminate your key count. I have over 5000 on my 08.
Other programmers do. Hellshavoc (Slade) truck had only 74 when I checked it last week. I know the J35 recall was done on the truck. No whether or not that resets the key count, I dont know. If it doesnt, then apparently some other type of programmer was installed and removed at some point in time.
That would throw a huge flag with a dealer that has no record of the ECM being reflashed by an authorized person....
This is just one example of how they clue in on a programmed vehicle.

Not that it matters to dodge but if you just deleted emissions crap and did the low hp tune the computer would tell on you if you exceeded lets say the turbo temp. If no excessive temps, pressures, etc. were seen it should be treated the same as a factory setting. Again dodge will probably have a no touch policy. Don't want anyone smarter than them.
Then again the emission stuff is out of there hands anyway.

Pretty much...
And its on a dealer by dealer basis on how much help you will get with the deleting issued.
Unless youre like me and just plain dont give a flip...

I'm my own warranty station. I'm over on mileage for the truck and drive train anyways and only thing left was the motor. The 6.7 was good that way for over a year and I pulled the trigger. Have not looked back since...
I realize I'm poaching on unfamiliar hunting grounds, but what about a box, like a mp-8. Doesn't it take the signal from the sensor and alter it to make the computer add more fuel, timing and ect??

While the MP8 and other power adders of its type would probably not leave a very noticeable footprint, should it come down to it and with enough investigation it could be found.
The 6.7 ECM records all parameters, such as fuel mapping, etc. Compare all the data vs. the stock constraints and if you see a run of data that is consistently above and beyond the stock programming than its a tattletale that something was modified.
Now, would the average dealership dig that deep, probably not, but it could be done.

I see!!! I knew that the 6.7 ECM recorded alot, but not that much!! My truck is working on 6 years old, looking at a 2010 or 2011 to replace it with, really digging the crew cabs. Does anyone know if the ecm's have been cracked by bob or Marco??
