Wheel Shaving Question
Wheel Shaving Question
I have a question about shaving Alcoa's...but let me preface this question with a disclaimer. I bought my truck with 22.5 shaved wheels and 22" tires already installed. I need to replace a wheel and tire and I have to shave the wheel or spend $$$$$ to replace all the tires and wheels. I have read the pro's and con's of this practice so please don't beat me up for asking this question.
The place I work at has a large machine shop. I asked if they could shave a wheel for me and they said yes. The question I have is HOW do you machine a wheel. Do you just shave 1/4" off of the area where the bead sits? Is there anything other than shaving the bead area of the wheel that I need to know? I am asking this in the interest of safety and also not scrapping an expensive wheel.
I am eventually going to put OEM wheels on this truck but in the meantime I need to deal with what is installed on it right now.
I really appreciate any help,
Thanks in advance........
