6.7 questions need some info

hey a 2nd genner asking some questions if you dont mind, looking at some 6.7's and the deletes. I know many people now make the deletes. and would need a smarty for the deletes. gauges no problem. maybe intake and exhaust guess the question is what else is needed with the deletes and smarty what is the power level your able to make with stock auto? I have too much money dumped in my 2nd gen and just rebuilt the engine 10k miles ago so i will keep my 2nd gen for some time but looking at 6.7's are there good and bad companies making deletes. anyone to stay away from?
also with the delete kits I know there is no more warranty. blah blah. but is there anyone having ecm issues etc with the deletes. also are there certain 6.7 years to maybe stay away from?

thanks for the words.

I have a 07.5 with the 6.7 and the minimal deletes and the smarty. My fuel economy running around empty is respectable. Word has it you can add 60 extra ponies to the stock tranny without issue. I run the smarty jr on the fuel economy tune (40 extra) and have no issues. Tows like a dream. Can I wreck this transmission on 40 extra hp? Yes, but I guarantee I can wreck the "mighty" Alison and ford tranny with stock power too. Its all in how you drive them.

To answer your question, there are no years out there for the 6.7 to avoid, they are all the same except for software updates from the dealer. Just get the latest update from the dealer for free, then do the deletes and add the smarty and all will be well.

so what is the story with the turbo have heard back and forth on the soot levels of the turbo. seems they are really dirty before deletes. and cleaner after deletes. do you have to clean them? would running some water/meth after deletes self clean them at all?
thanks for the replies keep em coming

Yes, anything upstream of the DPF and such in the exhaust can get very sooted up. The turbos included. The tailpipes are clean though . I would think the water/meth could clean things up. When I had a bad head gasket on a car of mine go bad, the one bad cylinder (intake, exhaust, head) was super clean . I deleted early and have not had my turbo ever cleaned or replaced.

I think the biggest issues are if you get a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday truck.

Seems people with Wednesday trucks have no issues. Guys with a Monday or Friday truck have some.

I think with the rash of complaints with the 07.5 6.7's have given the motor a "bad rapp" 4 years later. There are several people that pop in on forums and tell us about their 100k+ 07.5 grocery getter 6.7 with no problems. There's also a lot of people with 200k+ on the 68RFE's that tow HEAVY everyday. Most of what you hear about are the few 68RFE's that let go at 40k.

Some people run 90hp tunes and get over 100k out of their trannys driving like a tard. Other guys have had stock trannys go out around the 40k range driving like a grandma.

I just really think it depends if you got the "A" grade from the factory or the "C" grade.

Another thing to keep in mind is very few people of the diesel owner population is active on any forum. There's millions of CTD, PSD, & Dura's out there and their owners don't know what a forum is.

General feedback from forums has the 68RFE lasting around 100k with mild tunes, normal driving, and weekend hauling.

Sorry for the ramble, just wanted to let you know where I was coming from b4 I just posted an answer up.

I think "Blue Tech" was a "Advertising Gimick" saying they are better for the enviroment by burning more fuel to go the same distance.

Luckily, my 07.5 did not come with this silly badge. I just got to pay for the bluetec on the sticker..., and then disable it...

I have an '08 with the auto. I have wondered about this choice, every vehicle I've owned has been a stick until this truck. That said, I enjoy it a lot. It makes driving very relaxing, long highway runs or short hops, either way. I have less concern about traffic jams, running the snow plow is less work. I sure I'd like this truck with a stick, but the auto works great. Can't say much about the exhaust brake as I have not pulled any heavy trailers, yet...

I have a 08 built 11/07 and it is stock with 114k and only a EGR valve at 92k that cause a code and it was replaced under warranty. Original turbo. I drive it like a grandma unloaded and work it when towing about 1/2 of the time. I do drive with the exhaust brake on as often as I can remember to turn it on. I am waiting for my Black Maxx to arrive now that the warranty is over at 100k. I ordered the pipe for the DPF and such, plus I have the EGR delete sitting on the bench in the garage.

hey guys back for another question, after reading on this and looking at the soot build up on these motors with the re-gen system's etc, are the fords and duramax's having the same issues or worse compared to the cummins 6.7 with soot build up, etc. not asking because I'm crossing over to the darkside to a ford or chebby, just wondering. thanks for the reply.

All three engines have their own different issues with the mandated EPA emission rules.

Ford and Chevy/GMC have chosen to meet the 2010 emission laws using UREA and less use of the EGR system. User are complaining of UREA freezing in the tanks in extreme cold weather conditions and program issues with the ECM's that control the UREA sensors. Engines will derate do to low fluid levels in the UREA tank if you let it go below a certain set point. When you refill the tank the sensor will not reset and still keep you in a limp mode, need to go to the dealer to resolve this issue.

Some user on this forum and other are asking for Cummins to go the UREA usage so they can achieve better fuel mileage. I am not sure that improve fuel mileage will occur with UREA use, just additional cost of purchasing UREA. The C&C models of the Dodge trucks that use the 6.7L Cummins engine have been using UREA to meet the 2010 duty cycle set for them under the emission rules. I have not read any great fuel mileage reports on these trucks. I am sure if they had better fuel mileage then the pick-up trucks, we would have read about it on this and other forums.
Just my $0.02
Jim

Bingo!

The 12 valvers hate the VP Crowd. The 2nd Gen guys wouldnt be caught dead in a Common Rail. The 5.9 CR folks think the 6.7 is the Devil.

Dont even get me started on the 1st gen crowd....

Some trucks are badged Bluetec. Most are 08 and 09 models. I didnt see on my '11. Maybe Dodge gave up on it.
