What should I do?
I have a 2008 2500 Mega Cab. I'm kind of new to this Diesel truck thing. So this might be some stupid questions.
I live in California and every other year I have to get the truck SMOGed. I want to do some performance and improve my MPG modifications. So I need some suggestions. When SMOG Time comes again I want to put stuff back so it will pass SMOG.
My truck has a Mini Maxx Tuner and H&S Cold Air Intake already
I am planning to change the exhaust to a straight pipe with muffler. What is the purpose of the EGR Delete? Who make a good one and why? Any other suggestions? Thanks

Now you can do a stealth delete and remove the inner components of the DPF and the EGR system so you may need to do a search on this site for a Calf stealth delete. This is the only way that I would delete in Calf if I lived there.

"California Style"
I just use Programmer and delete pipe between the CAT and muffler to eliminate the NOX/DPF. The EGR is disableed with the programmer and I leave everything else on the truck. The exhaust pipe is the only thing I need to revert back to for SMOG. Otherwise, I get all the benefits of the deletes and very happy. I have had to have my truck smogged twice now and with no issues...

If you have a MiniMaxx, just run it with the DPF garbage in place. I have a delete pipe sitting in my garage "just in case" the DPF decides to crap out on me, and have both DPF/no DPF tunes on my SD card.
This is how I run mine and I have plenty of power, and gained around 2 MPG if I can keep my foot out of it. I run mine exclusively in "Tow" mode. The only issue I've run across is the turbo making noise when I stick the skinny pedal really hard (sounds like its not getting enough air).

Depending on where you live in Kalyforrnya depends on the testing criteria. Most counties now do a visual and obd I/M check and you won't pass with a delete tune in the ecm so that rules out a stealth delete during testing.
The egr delete cleans up the engine compartment, that's all. It looks good but doesn't accomplish much more than the basic disabling from loading the delete tune.
If you're ok with all the work involved in the R&R of the components at smog time then go for it. For me like ME above I have the nac/dpf pipe to do the deletes and its much easier for me to R&R it at smog time.
