What about Superchips

There doesn't seem to be much talk of SuperChips programers on the boards. Are they really that bad or just no one uses them?

Question being I hear so much good stuff about the Edge/w tude but my local shop says they don't seem to have good luck with them and end up pulling they back out for customers.

Hey duckdon...

The Juice with Attitude is probably the biggest power maker for your 6.7 currently.

But Mads is coming out with Smarty for your trucks...and this is a Smarty dominated group of ****'s...

I currently have the Super Chips Flash paq. Of course I bought it before I got on this forum and really did some research. As far as performance I dynoed on the tow performance setting w/ a stock clutch at 413hp & 780 torque. I have yet to dyno w/ the SB on Performance but I believe I can easily hit over 430hp. A stuck clutch will not hold the Performance settings and Tow Performance smoked the stock clutch in a year. With the SB on Performance its lots of good smoke and whole lotta get up and go.

It's easy to use and they finally got a few updates on their website. For the price I would have waited and went with Smarty. You can do a bunch of cool things with it and adjust tire size. I think the tire size option is not accurate. You can download data from the truck and graph it if you are into that stuff.

I'll sell you mine so that I can get a Smarty!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a Superchips flashpaq before I found this website. I wanted it for the possibility of increased fuel mileage, but I did not have any guages at the time and in Tow Mode I could slip my 48re while towing my boat. I had no idea what kind of egts I was getting up to, So I got rid of it for fear of damaging my stock tranny and stock turbo. It made really good power and I had it on Tow mode 90% of the time. I will say that my motor is stock now and have never had any other programmer, but if I do get another programer It will be a Smarty Jr.

I have to say that i really like my superchip that i have in my 05 4X4. I dont want to get all crazy and spend alot of money on all the other chips. I got mine off of a friend very cheap and i have had no problem with it at all. The only thing is that everyone is buying the newer versions and going crazy with the horsepower i just wanted something that would boost my horsepower a little bit and give me more mpg. There are other chips/programmers that are better but i like my superchip just fine.

Don't know how they are with the 6.7 but my 5.9 likes it. It can send the EGT's way up in the performance mode when towing. It eats stock clutches for lunch on anything with a dual mass. The auto trans deal is about the same with any power adders adn stock tranny.

I realy like it but am looking to go to a smarty because I read so much upside on this site and 10 settings to dial in the way you drive and your rig is set up!

I'm sure smarty will have all kinds of tunes for the 6.7's, and probably custom tunes for guys that wanna keep or remove the DPF, EGR, exc...

A few months after I put a Superchips programmer on my 01, I had the vp44 go out & lost 5th gear in my nv4500. I know those are common problems that can happen, but it just seemed funny that it all happened right after I started using the Superchips.

I lifted my back seat for the first time in 2 years and the next day I got a flat. I find that very suspicious.

I use the Superchips FireFly and love it. I didn't want a product that would cost me $600 now and several thousand in repairs later.

It seems to be a recurring theme on here. See how much power I can get, break, fix, add more power, break, fix... well you get the idea.

I wanted something I could change on the fly, something that didn't have a PDA sized display, something that didn't cost and arm and a leg (I got in on the beta test), something that gave me a little more but not so much as to damage the truck, and something I could have fun with and not worry about blowing up the trans. The FireFly fit the bill for me.

It's all on how much money you have and how much you are willing to risk.

Guardrail, I wasn't trying to be a smarta**. The point I was making is that I believe that the superchips programmer may have caused the problems I had after I used it. I am convinced that a stock nv4500 cannot handle any more hp or torque than factory settings. Since I sold the Superchips tuner, I haven't had any more trouble with my vp44 or tranny. Live and learn I guess.
