Alright guys and gals! I had it. I'm sure this topic has been addressed before somewhere, but help me out. If the DPF, EGR, EGR cooler are deleted and a cold air intake is added, Which programmer would you buy? Smarty67 or the Edge?????? What are the pro's and con's? Don't really care about the warranty issue. I really like my wifes truck, just tired of the emmision B.S.

 

Neither of those. Go with the H&S Black Maxx or Mini Max. From what I've heard is that the edge will still throw codes, and the smarty doesn't have on the fly capabilities like the Black Maxx and Mini Maxx have. This is all not to mention that you will have guages included with both. The black Maxx is a bit pricey, but in my opinion worth every penny. The Mini Maxx is comparibly priced with the Smarty. What H&S has done programming wise is pretty impressive, for some extra dough you can get active maxx (ill let you read up on exactly what it does), and you can also get their tranny tuner which will eliminate those eary 5th and 6th gear shifts. Driving in the Mtns of Colorado, I am getting 22.5mpg on my computer and 21.6 hand calculated with the Black Maxx.

 

I've got the smarty jr ME. No issues at all. I run my truck for business every single day, I just programed in the fuel economy tune and left it. Running empty and towing, no problems.

I use the Edge Insight for my gauges.

 

if your set on a smarty or edge def get the SMARTY!!!

It is a programer that will reprogram the ECM so it never knew the DPF and egr were even there. The edge will just clear codes every time you start to truck.

If you can wait a little bit H&S is redesigning the XRT to accomodate tcm tuning as well. I run a smarty on my truck and love it. the power is great and it just runs so smooth!
