Programmers Edge vs Smarty and why
most of it is in my signature. im running a custom tune from h&s along with trans tuning and a few other tweaks. i will say that the adjustability that smarty offers is good for the average user, but they wont map you a tune specifically for one person. i can say that i do. h&s has helped me way more than bob wagner has. my opinion though. im not bashing.

No not saying your bashing at all. More info is always a good thing. I plan on doing my tranny next and just playing the waiting game as far as the ATS/Georend/Suncoast whos gonna build bigger better sooner game.
I do have a copy of the TNT 6.7 Tune and have heard its pretty impressive but I wont load it till I have more mods.
I would like to run an H&S just for comparison. Too bad your not closer, we could swap.

The use of a programmer like the Smarty or any of the H&S tuners is the preferred setup on these 6.7 trucks. Like others have said the Edge just modifies some signals to trick the ECM whereas a programmer actually re-writes the computer with a better program. In the case of the Smarty S-67 with ME tunes and the H&S XRT, it completely turns off the DPF and EGR functions and ignores all of the sensors to give you a code free truck. They both also allow you to change tire size and activate certains vehicle functions.
The H&S Black Maxx and Mini Maxx takes this even further by having a full gauge pachage that can read fuel rail pressure, boost, EGT, trans temp, etc.
You can then set de-fueling limits to protect the motor and transmission. They both also give you the ability to change tunes on the fly right from the screen. Soon to be released for the Black Maxx and Mini Maxx is the Trans Tuning software that will allow you to re-program the TCM right from your programmer on dash.

Why can you program on the fly with the H&S and not the smarty. Thought you had to shut down to reprogram. So can you modify the preset programs set on the black maxx? You can custom tune on the smarty right?
I'm not an expert on any of this, but here is my guess. Power adders like the edge just modify the parameters to the stock program while the Smarty is a whole new program. Hence, this is why one can modify on the fly with the edge, but the Smarty needs a whole new program downloaded for each specialty need. I think that maybe the H&S is like a stacked combination of edge/smarty where you get the benefits of a non-stock program and yet it is always connected and can be modified on the fly and used for gauges. The Smarty has a POD (power on demand function) that can be used to limit down a given program level. On has to keep the Smarty connected to operate the POD, but can then disconnect the Smarty once set or keep connect and make POD changes on the fly. I tend to think the Smarty would be able to do the same things as the H&S if desired by MADS, but the platform structure is just not ideally designed to be connected all the time as the functionality was not originally to have the unit continually connected.
Yes, one can custom tune things such as timing, torque management, rail pressure, etc. on the Smarty.
Hope this makes sense to anyone? Or am I out in left field?

Definitely small. Like 1/2 inch by an inch or so. Just enough for an up and down button and a small display. You want to jump more than one increment at a time hold the button to jump 5 or 10 or whatever....
Let KISS work here. I dont need gauges, I have a very nice set of those already.

. Maybe I need to do some edits too.
