Programing 2008 6.7L ( Should I )

Hello everyone,
I just bought a new to me 2008 Ram 3500 drw manual trans. I have a PPE programmer that I can put on it. Nearest I can tell the truck is stock. I know that this programmer is not the preferred one. I want a smarty and exhaust... eventually.
I was talking to a local diesel guy and he said to leave this truck stock or I will have nothing but problems from it. I thought it was just the opposite.

Please!!! any help from the Group would be great!!!

I am sure everyone will chime in hear soon, but your local diesel guy is so WRONG...My quick story...Bought new, codes every 3k like clockwork, 2 turbo cleanings and 1 turbo replacement all before 31k...Deleted with Smarty the day after new turbo was installed, 45k now and not one problems since, runs like a top and fuel mileage went through the roof (summertime anyway)...

Yep, this guy has it backwards. Make sure your stock emmisions equipment is all working correctly and then delete it so your truck will not have future problems and will run so much better than new, and you can put your working equipment back on if/when needed.

I only have about 1K since CALI Delete and smarty S67ME install and nothing but a big *** smile on my face. Just prior to deleting and smarty the truck was at the dealer for a CEL which ended up having the turbo cleansed.
Read the forum, it won't take you long to convince yourself to delete and add programmer.

Your local guy is correct based on the tuner you want to use.. Either leave it 100% stock or do delete's and a programmer. Do NOT do a programmer and not deletes, thats just asking to magnify emissions related issues due to increased fueling.

What state are you? Your wrench could of said to leave it stock if they smog test in your state. Smarty can be detected even after removal!

No I'm in LA they don't smog test here. Also he said not to use any programmer and to leave truck stk. No deletes or anything, so I thk he probably doesn't know what he is talking about.. Nice guy though.

Thanks for all the input. I thk I will leave it stk until I'm ready for the deletes and all.
Shouldn't take more then a couple of months....
