Angry CA Smog and J35

Well guys, I just got my CA registration renewal form from the DMV (due end of August) and they are requiring me to get the J35 and Smog finally... So, looks like I'm going to have to put the junk I saved back on for a bit. Then get the J35 from the dealer and then go get it smogged.

Hopefully it goes smooth and I can get back to the deletes right away before I go on vacation and towing through the mountains...

Anyone have any decent ideas on a good place to get it smogged near Ontario California 91761?

How do they do the test anyway? Catch soot coming out of the tail pipe or what? If so you may want to drive it real good once you get it all back to stock as there will be soot stuck inside the tail pipe that could come loose during the test.

After you program back to stock give it 4-5 days of driving to reset all of the registers. When I smogged my 01 it took 150 miles (3 days and 5 or 6 heat cycles) to get all of the computer parameters happy for the smog station's equipment. Not sure, but I would suspect the same would be needed after the factory flash, too. I'd be interested to hear if you get any feedback from the dealer after having the Smarty on there. Do they see a trace of it?

When I smogged my 01 they checked for codes, looked for missing or added parts NOT on the state's acceptable list and did a snap throttle test and watched the exhaust for any smoke. Other than the registers not being done it passed fine with the Smarty on half power to keep the 130hp injectors from smoking!

That's my understanding. They check visually for the equipment, check to see if there is any CEL, and do a snap test for the smoke. Except for the visual, I should be just fine... However, I will have to bolt stuff back on to get past the visual equipment section... Relative to the recall, I'm not too worried about anything as they should just flash it and be done... It is a recall issue, not warantee.

They don't just look for a CEL. They plug the smog machine into your OBD port and look for codes, verify VIN, etc. Same as a gasser without probing! That's why you need to drive the truck after it's been flashed to get all of the registers back to normal.
