X-Monitor Install Help
X-Monitor Install Help
Looking at getting a X-Monitor for my truck. Can you guys give me some very detailed installation instructions. I'm looking at monitoring the EGT, Boost & Trans Temp. By very detailed, I mean VERY detailed.
I understand the Trans Temp is taken from the ECM, is this just splicing into a wire or is there a harness to plug into and run a wire to the processor of the X-Monitor?
The drilling of the EGT is my biggest fear, yes it will be going pre-turbo. I've read about coating the bit with grease or holding a vacuum near the bit to prevent metal shavings from falling into the turbo, is this all that is necessary, seems to me metal from the inside when the bit goes thru will fall into the turbo. Is there any tapping of this hole or how does the probe get held in place?
The boost I understand you take a bolt out and replace with a supplied bolt. I know nothing about boost so please bear with me. Is their a tube or wire that runs from this new bolt to the processor?
This is my first diesel and I have learnd a LOT from everyone here and other message boards and hope someday I can contribute something back.
Does anyone know of a good, reputable shop in Kansa City area that would install or drill the EGT probe hole?
Thanks much for your help and information.

Re:X-Monitor Install Help
I see you have an 03 but I don't think that the install would be too different than my 01. For the trans temp you merely tap one wire into one of the wires going to the JTEC controller. The instructions will guide you to which wire.
I installed my probe post turbo as I needed it operational asap although I am going to go pre turbo soon. I'm removing my turbo as it's an easy procedure on my truck prior to drilling. Yes you have to drill and then tap the hole. It will require a 1/4-18 NPT tap which is available at about any hardware store. Go easy when tapping the hole if you are not experienced. Keep the tap clean and don't tap to deep. Back it out and check your probe depth often.
On the boost, yes you remove one bolt and install the supplied bolt with the kit. This will allow a hard line (plastic) to be attached and you will run this to the controller for the gauge set.
Hope this helps some.
