I am getting ready to install a MBRP muffler and a pyrometer and was wondering about a boost gauge. Maybe later install a chip or box for 50-75 hp increase for towing. I have a 6 speed so don't need a tranny gauge.

What purpose does it serve? I can understand the other gauges but don't understand the use of a boost gauge. Any info would be appreciated.

Once you know the parameters of whatever turbo you have the boost guage can tell if there is any problem with the wastegate opening too soon, or leaking system . Conversely can also use it to tune your wastegate if you have any wastegate control accessories to get the maximum boost. Also important to know if you are overspeeding or overboosting for the capability of your turbo.

 

Will also help diagnose a low power problem as well.

 

The boost gauge is real helpful in increasing fuel economy. A visual aid in keeping the boost levels lower for economy.

whats the max boost normally for an '06?

 

Should spike to about 33-34 psi....then settle down to 28 or so at sustained WOT.
