Who sells needle valves?

The last part I need to put my fpg in tomorrow is a needle valve. I need something that goes from 1/8"MIP to 1/4" hose barb, right angle would fit nice too. I'm guessing I'll need a reducer to go from 1/4" to 1/8".

Who carries this? I found them on-line but shipping charges equal the cost of the part and then some, besides I want it now. The big-box plumbing supply aisle only carries needle valves with compression fittings. Will a big plumbing supply house carry this? An auto parts store? Some other type of retailer?

Also... if I scrap the hose barbs - would a grease gun hose have 1/4" MIP ends? Thanks.

NAPA.

Best place by far for small brass fittings. They should have the valve itself and any 90*'s, reducers or nipples you need.

DON'T USE TEFLON TAPE.

It was going to be my first try.

I should use locktight instead of tape, right?

I used a permatex liquid teflon. Others may recommend different thread sealer, I have just herad bad things about the tape itself.

All NAPA are not created equal.

This morning I tried two NAPA, AutoZone, Pep Boys, Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and Aaron Plumbing Supply.

Everyone had some kind of fittings, fewer had needle valves, I found a bunch of compression fitting (tube) type valves, one was actually MIP to Tube... I am reluctant to run fuel in a tube with a compression fitting.

I have now spent as much on fuel driving as the shipping charges so now I guess I'm looking for an on-line source. I have a couple posted already - it will probably depend on who has the best deal for shipping. Off to mount the gauge now - guess I'll plumb it in next week.

Did some forum searches and found grainger valve and the best thing is they have a store 5 miles from where I work. Hopefully able to pick this up Monday for $0. shipping.

Why.
Propane or natural gas lines in your house use compression fittings? How do you sleep at night? (just kidding)

The connection on the back of my gauge is compression along with about 500 other people here. It's up to the individual, but I think you might be over enginerring it a bit. We're only talking 15 psi here, and it's not gasoline.

Sorry to hear about your NAPA, guess they aren't all the same. Now that I think about it, there is one near me that is like a owner operated job, they have a pretty sweet selection cause they are allowed to offer other brand/parts unlike the corporate stores.

Good Luck.

They only have the valves with a compression fitting on the one side, threaded on the other.

yes, you are right.
in fact, I'm using compression and tube/ferrule from the isolator to the gauge, just not from the banjo tap to the isolator. yes, compression fittings are used for all manner of connection, including the LPG in my house and my ice-maker which has never leaked at 60psi... (and other high pressure stuff I know) - still those 1/8" compression fitting valves look kinda mickey mouse to me. Also... my ice maker doesn't vibrate like my CDT and although it won't explode, spraying diesel around my engine compartment is not desirable.

If I had better success with plumbing anything I might do it... but my plumbing skills stink. Grainger's got the part. If I can sneak out at lunch I'll have it tomorrow.
