I just talked to DTT. Called for Filters/Gaskets.
But happened to catch Stephen (owners son) answering the phone. So I asked again about ATF brands.
-He uses Dexron III w/ Lube Guard.... only because he wants VERY firm shifts at track.
- He said nothing wrong with straight Dexron III, IF you don't get a shudder during shifts. (he does)
-Also said nothing wrong with using Amsoil ATF (Rated ATF+4) for smoother shifts. No higher wear factor and no shorter clutch life.
-He is pro synthetics... for cooler operating temps and better thermal stability.
-He is against using Mopar's ATF+4. We did not get into why.
This info is exactly what I recalled him saying to me 2-3 yrs ago, so it's not just my interpretation.
I suspect, having seen it before, Bill may have slightly different opinions, which may be the cause for some of the confusion here.
After 140,000, trouble free, miles with Amsoil's ATF, I'm very happy. I do change filter and oil @ 20,000 miles when racing. Just cheap insurance, IMO.

Do you have any information on the difference between Amsoil ATF and Mopar ATF +4?? They are both synthetic.
I am extremely pleased with my transmission (with Mopar ATF+4)......shifts etc. Perfect, IMO. And you saw how well it performed at Redline Raceway. I just can't see any reason to change from Mopar ATF +4. Im about to do my 20K mile trans service too.

I got new bands, clutches, new accumalator piston, new HD governer solenoid and transducer, and a good flush. I had an issue with the first DTT accumalator piston. I had it set up for really firm shifts so the piston was blocked with a rod, and the rod had worn down and was getting sloppy in the bore. When it did that the rod was knocking small chunks off and taking out transducers. After I changed out 4 transuducers it was time to tear into it. Since it was apart we went ahead and replaced the above mentioned parts. Everything else was left the same, ie. valve body and single disk converter. I am so glad to have it back. I had to drive a normal car for a week and it sucked!!!
