Where to go with bombing?
Where to go with bombing?
Ok, so far I have an AFE air intake, MBRP cool dual exhaust, isspro gauges and a Diablosport Predator. As of right now I want more but I know that with the predator on extreme, my EGTs get out of control pretty quick and my tranny is begging for mercy. So with that in mind, where should I go next? I want to do some tranny mods but I don't have the cash for an all out tranny rebuild. Can I keep a stock internaled 48RE alive with a better torque converter, shift kit, valve body, deep pan and synthetic ATF+4?
Any other suggestions on what areas I should look at? I know I'm going to need an airdog or FASS system before I add more fuel. I'm probably beating a dead horse here but I appreciate you 3rd gen guru's input (I come from the 1st gen world, where screw drivers and dremels build power
)

A good valve body and torque converter will help for sure. It really depends what kind of shape the trans is in now though. If you've already toasted some clutches or worn them out then the valve body will just delay the inevitable.
Deep pan is not gonna do much for your (in my opinion) and ATF+4 is synthetic already.
You can definitely get away with the VB+TC though. Plenty of people have. The issue then becomes the flexplate and input shaft. Either of which have the potential to destroy a very expensive torque converter if they break the wrong way. Which is the only way anything ever breaks for me. If you can afford to get the TC+VB, then maybe try to save up for a good flex and input as well. Then when you are ready to refresh the trans you just need to come up with the money for internal rebuild and possibly do an output shaft at that time.

You should be fine with a good T/C and V/B. I would also do a input as well.. I wouldn't throw more fuel at a already hot running engine. You may want to go ahead and look at a turbo upgrade. A good T/C, V/B, Input and Flex should be good for about 500 hp.
