Where to get BDs twins/boots ?

Besides going direct to bd, and throwing fistfuls of cash out the window, who is selling the kits cheap,

Also, at what amount of boost are new intercooler boots/hoses, needed at, havent heard of to many complaints, so it must be 65psi+. Or is there a better chance of the head gasket going before the boots?

After 50PSI the head gaskets can blow without studs. The bd's shouldnt produce to much though, maybe high 40's low 50's.

Check with some of the forum sponsors. You might be surprised at how reasonable of a deal they can make you. BD sells direct but can not undercut any of their retailers, so everything you buy direct will be at full MSRP. You can always do better elsewhere. The cheapest advertised price I remember seeing on them was at Jegs. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=25517

Thanks, I called homeontheroad.org the other day, and they told me to look at cyclonedieselpower.com, where they were $500 more, (homeontheroad didnt really stock them anymore)

Jegs looks to be close to the same price, Ill talk to them yet

As for the head gaskets, I figure Ill be alright with the bds, if they come from the factory at 50psi wastegate adjustment.

But will I be blowing off the Intercooler boots at 50psi?

Gypsyman, how are the pdr 40/3b twins for towing/spool up

The 40 is laggy until things get moving but I don't really have a problem. I'm fueled fairly well down low. They're borderline for towing with a stick though. With 12k behind them you can mat the throttle and crest just about any mountain pass at 90 with temps around 1000*. However, holding speed at 450 hp they can get a little warmer than I'd like to see.

For towing I would go with a 35 on top or just get the BD's. I'm actually considering the BD twins or something similar for the '03 for towing purposes. Then I could move the PDR twins over to the '04.5 for playing hard with low drive pressures.

Geez I wish the stock boots would go before the headgasket. The stock boost on the intercooler held over 80psi for me. The headgasket not so lucky...The pressure on the inside of the head will always be higher than outside the motor. BD makes a safe and reliable set of twins that spool well and support a reasonable amount of power....many on here make more power and torque with good singles such as Aurora 5000, silver bullet, and ps sp 66's. ks

rjohnson has the BD twins and never touched the wastegate and he's hitting 65psi. He dynoed 628hp/1300+tq and he's only seeing 1300* EGT's with no water/meth.

So for towing with identical fueling, which would be a better choice BDs twins or PDRs 35/3B twins? When towing at around 350 or higher hp which would cool better.

I dont have a truck just yet but these two twin sets are the ones Ive been eyeing the most. If both perform about the same then for me I would probably pick the BD's if I could get them for much less than the PDR's. My main concerns are with towing temps and spooling, but I would want them to perform during an occasional race. Im very willing to sacrifice some high end power if it means Id get better low end and midrange.

Gypsyman, if you were to replace the 40/3B set with the BD's would you leave your fueling the same? How long does it take for your current set to spool as they are? How much of an improvment would you expect from either a 35/3B or BD set?

Thanks for all your help, this is just the topic Ive been meaning to bring up lately!!!

For towing at 450 hp and less I'd go with the BD Twins. The PDR35 will spool quicker on the bottom end but you still need to light the 3B for the compound effect. The bottom turbo makes a much greater difference for towing than the top does from what I've experienced.

thanks abc4yew, I figured the boots would hold up,

gypsyman, looking at your signature, are you saying the sbc OFE held 642 ponies?

Holds it every day but I never slip it off the line or dump it. Just nail it when it's fully engaged. This is my working truck so I don't abuse her much.

I have the BD twins and love them. I have them turned down to about 48lbs to save my head gaskett till I get my arp studs and injectors installed(still waiting to get my injectors from ats). They light from 10psi to 50psi in a second. They will be even better with the injectors. After that I will crank it up to about 65 psi and dyno it and post the #'s. Talked to BD and they said they will support 650+ HP easy, and thats more than I need since this is my work truck and daily driver.
