When Do I Change AirDog Filters?

I've had my AirDog II system for probably 30,000 miles. I'm just wondering when I should change those filters. Does anyone know a good place to get replacements (and p/n should you happen to know).

10k MILES

I bought my truck with the ADII already on it, so I called the company to ask... they told me both the filter and the water separator should be replaced every 10 thousand miles. The separator should be drained at least after 5 thousand.

Interesting...didn't realize the filters were interchangeable! Thought they were "something special".

I change mine ever 8-10k, but sometimes less. I read somewhere to just listen to the pump, if it is louder than normal it is dirty and needs to be changed.

the filters should only be changed when they clog up. just watch the fuel pressure on the cp3, when it starts dropping under load it is time to change. they filter the best at this point. you are throwing a better filter away than you are putting on if you change it out sooner. call wix or any of the other and they will verify. the filters used on the airdog and fass are not the best setup. the best thing you can do is to use the pump but use different filters. either change the center insert to a 1"-14 thread or use external filters use wix 3306 and 33674 filters or your brand wix equivalent

You lost me there...sounds like you are saying a partially clogged filter filters best?

My concern is that the temperature here has dropped to -20 deg C, and will hit -30 deg C this coming week. Whatever stuff is being filtered out of the fuel I don't want gelling, or the water that may be in the separator I don't want to freeze - leaving me stranded on the road at those temperatures...

Drop in the fuel pressure guage will tell you when you have to change.

Replace the stock AD filters as soon as you can..

This is a good combination of filters:
Baldwin BF1212 (f/w sep)
CAT 1R0750 (2 mic filter)

Do a search for threads by member AH64ID for lots of great info on filters.

The FF5613 is actually a 5um filter, and the FS19768 is a JOKE of a f/w sep.

The current best filters that will fit the AD's are the Donaldson P551315 (3um), and the Luberfiner LFF9594. Do not use cross references, they aren't as good.

The FF5613 is a good filter, but not the 2um absolute many folks want you to believe it is.

Change every 10,000 miles and get the replacements from Airdog. Only need to replace the filter. The water seperator, just drain as normal. No replacement needed. It does stink as a water seperator. That is why I still run the factory fuel filter at the engine. I have an FS1000 setup waiting to go on the truck on the suction side of my pump. Just haven't put it on yet. Need to get a couple of fittings.

Does AD specify the 10K change interval? The FF5613 holds 24g vs the OEM filter holding 14g, and the AD filter is only 2.7% more efficient at 5um, which isn't going to cut the service life by 1/3.

A fuel psi gauge is the real indicator of filter life, but 10K seems very short. I went 30K miles on my last change.

If your running the new LFF9594 AD f/w sep it will require changes more frequently than the old f/w sep as its 20um vs 140um on the original.

yes the dirtier the filter gets the better it filters. they even rate the filters this way. the class 8 trucks came with a warning not to over service the air filters. the larger holes in the filter offer less restriction to flow and therefore more fuel or air passes through them, as the larger holes fill up the smaller holes now pass the air or fuel. only change the air filter and fuel filters by gauge. and the oil bypass filter by feel, when it no longer gets hot it is time to change. AH64ID i use the air dog pump on my 98.5's to the later cr's when they moved to the tank's i have never seen a airdog with the filters but most filter bases i have seen use a 3/4-16 insert to the thread you want to use for the filter. i have changed the inserts in most of mine to the 1"14 thread so i can use the wix 33374 and 33374 filters. i use the cat version of 33374 and a luberfiner version of 33674. look at the airdog and see if this will work on it.

I do use a guage. Pressure was down a little. Filters are cheap.
