When to change the oil for the first time
Just bought my first cummins diesel,650 miles on it.Some folks say to change the oil at 1000 miles,first change,some say to wait 3700 miles.Just curious.Any Info Thanks.What type of Oil also.Syn.oil or regular oil.Thanks.coobie

Just did my first change at 3258 miles. oil looked better than what comes out of my wifes honda. For now I am using Delo 400 from Chevron. I paid about $6.17 per gallon at Walmart.
I used a strap type wrench to get the oem filter off. It was tight but not gorilla tight.
Don't assume that because it holds 12qts that it will need 12qts.
After you drain the old stuff out put about one quart in the filter then add about 10 or so to the engine. Run it for a few minutes then let it sit for a few and check it. Add as needed.
Have fun with your new truck.
