I'd say as much as you can get on the motor. 4.2 puts out a lot of power and uses a lot of fuel. Large injectors will require a larger turbo which will require... etc.

You can probably run it without a lot of that but, you asked how to get the full potential so, a really built motor would be it.

so you wouldn't recommend running it on a stock motor? Or even running it with just fuel system and cp3 mod?

IMHO, no.... 4.2 is a race tune and shouldn't be use for anything other than that. Others may have a different opinion but, that's mine and I've use just about every SW there's been.

I had good results with 4.2 on the stock turbo and injectors. After injectors and turbo it felt like it was over fueling. The smoke was way too thick for a daily driver. Maybe a 64 or 66 turbo would be good for the 4.2 with injectors.

On my buddies truck we put the 4.3sl program on it. It is a nice tune, the truck has a tranny and turbo (62ss) though. It needs a lift pump though. It'll pull the stock pump down to 2 psi from 10 psi.

IMo you'd be better off sticking with the 4.4. I have the 4.2 also and with my mods it ran good, but RP ramps up way to quick and holds to high at idle for my truck. As stated it is a race program.
