Whats the best stock muffler replacement?

I need a muffler for my 2006. I don't want some hot rod sounding drone heavy unit. I would be happy if it was quieter than stock if it can be done?
I don't want to replace pipes and the whole system just a simple bolt in replacement?

Am I asking for the impossible or do I buy a new Dodge stocker?

Well something along the lines of a Donaldson 51" or Nelson would be the average replacement, but I don't think it will be quieter, if anything you will hear just a little rumble. But they are great mufflers. You could also look into the Hushpower Mufflers or Aero Turbine. You could also consider another resonator to put in line, but I'm not sure just how quiet you want the truck to be.

I heard truck with a Donalson 51" on utube but it sounded like straight pipe? Will the Donalson bolt right in or am I doing some cutting?

Thanks for the info.

Check the classified here. I picked up a new take off for $50.00 when mine rotted out.

I think I might just go with the Aero Turbine 4040XL. Doing a bit of reading and a few sound clips it sounds like the ticket.

The price is good and I think it should bolt right in with out any mess?

Thanks for the idea Rip 112. I had never heard of the company before you mentioned it.

muffler

I had to replace my muffler on my 05 , I checked everywhere and I too was worried about noise in the cab, I drive 70miles a day back and forth to work. I found that by the time I bought the replacement muffler, I could by the mbrp cat back system for the same price or less. I installed the kit and I am extremely happy with it, nice sound , but very quiet in the cab, I don't notice it to be any louder in the cab than the stock muffler. but it really woke up the motor. the key is to leave the cat on.

You'll be happy with the 4040XL . That's the same one I'm using and I'm very pleased with my choice. I didn't want the drone and all the other noise from a straight pipe either.

I guess from looking at the pipe you needed to add an off set pipe to line it all up? The Aero Turbine is straight and the factory is off set.

Well I now have a Aero Turbine 4040XL installed on my truck in place of the stock muffler. It took two elbows to make the change from the stock unit.

It is a bit louder than stock but wow it sounds nice a deep. If you put your foot in it the rumble is heard but just cruising the sound is stock and quiet.
Really happy with the build quality and S/S construction.

I paid only $109.00 for the unit .

Well hope its what you were looking for. Its hard to make these trucks silent, but if you can at least make it sound good, thats a good tradeoff imo.

I enjoy my 4040xl. I left the cat in place.

Now you can actually hear the truck sound like a Cummins at idle. A hint louder than stock on accel but nice deep tone. I'm not the kind that likes loud exhausts, I like the deep mellow. I'm happy with it.

Where did you get your 4040XL? Most prices I have seen are considerably higher.

Cheers

I agree I could't find any low priced deals around so I searched the web.

A site called Our Deals Rock I ordered from them and had it five days later.
