I'd be happy with a 6, either 68RFE or the Allison. How much torque and power can these hold moded and with billet internals?

most builders are only rating their "built" 68rfe to hold 550 hp. suncoast has one for over $8K with converter that claims to be over 750 but dang. it would cost a crap load to do an allison conversion. $7500 for a highly built unit with converter, $1000 for the stand alone computer to operate it, adapter kit and driveshafts then there is labor to install everything.

What about a built Goerend 48RE? Billet flex plate, billet input/output shafts, deep pan and, their triple disk TC would seem to fit the bill and still be in the "affordable" arena

^^^^ have one, it's great and no complaints, but this is a "dream" tranny and mo' gears is bettah...

And forget the billet flexplate... a laminated one is the ticket. a billet's "lack of flex" tends to cause some issues.

The same TRE trans I have but a 6 speed. I love my 48 but I hate the 4 speeds. I get the same mileage Highway that I do in town. Try driving 65 on 95 in Northern Va and you will get killed, 75-80 min and man she drinks at that speed. I wish someone would come out with a simple 1 gear 500 rpm drop overdrive unit. I dont need a gear vendors unit, I just want a much lower final overdrive gear. But in a dream world a Mercedes Benz 8 speed auto. Yeahhhh.

Maybe if enough of us Cummins boys petition Allison, they will build us a hell for stout 6 speed? There has to be good money in aftermarket sales I would think?
