what tranny parts do i need?
from sign- you can see what i currently have, keep in mind I eventually want a set of EDM injectors somewhere in the neighborhood of 100hp (when available) plan to upgrade turbo to B1-04, maybe header on day nothing more(major anyway) than that-
With all that in mind what do any of you suggest I do to upgrade tranny?? I am a newby to this subject and can use as much info as possible
thanks to all- Johnathan

Auto or stick? Or did I miss something in your sig?
If it is an auto, assuming it is. I went with the ATS Stage III, TQ, VB and Commander for lock-up. Night and day difference in performance, I even gained aprox. .9 mpg, hand calculated.
There are other tranny companies DTT, SunCoast, etc... I have heard good stuff about all of them. Do some research, plenty of info and opinions on here.
If you have a hand shaker, can't help you.

I too have the Auto- good guess
So is the ATS Stage III a full replacement tranny or just and upgrade package? I really just want to up-grade. I know the TC and VB but bein' a first timer with the whole tranny mod- I don't really know what exactly needs to be replaced. thanks for the responce- Johnathan

I just did the following to my truck and it hauls now. No sloppy shifting, stall is much lower than stock, acceleration is almost instant. Shifts like a truck should.
Modifications made to the 48RE included a Superior VB kit for the 99 up
A500/618. (Superior Part #K500-618-L)
The kit was installed as per instructions except for the following.
1)Do not drill the Pressure Regulator valve wall as per kit as
a Sonnax Pressure Regulator valve is used instead. (Sonnax part
#2271-02K)
2)Do not drill the Valve Body casting for the manual valve
that comes in the kit because a Sonnax valve is used instead.
(Sonnax part #22771-09)
3)Replace the 4-spool lockup valve with a Sonnax 4 spool
convertor valve. (Sonnax part #22771A-01)
4)I also delete or remove the cooler line check valve as the
Sonnax PR valve moves the check valve into the VB where it belongs. The
original check valve is located in one of the cooler lines where the
lines go from the metal to rubber line at the fender well and its part of the coupler.
5)Replace stock torque converter with ATC/Repco part #CR70X-S1
I use this 99 up Superior Kit on ALL models RWD OD Dodges with the
incorporation of the Sonnax valve set.
1) This keeps the convertor charged at full throttle and lube flow
at max.
2) It also allows for extended idle in park. The Sonnax manual valve
with the Pressure Regulator valve achieves this goal.
These modifications are highly recommended with any rebuild and
Required for all diesel applications in my shop. The above modifications work extremely well for lockup and are PERFECT for a lower stall convertor like this one. The convertor is well suited in the 305 HO '03 and '04 models and the new 325 hp 600 ft lbs torque for the '04.5 models.
Bobby at AXIOM in Charlotte NC (256)767-3141 can help you order these parts. Tell him George from Affordable in Sanford, NC gave you his info. This is all information passed to me from Tim Holt, we have him to thank on all of this work and research. Great tranny mods for a VERY reasonable cost compared to the rest of the market. Price it out and you will be amazed.
DISCLAIMER - I am not at all affiliated with AXIOM technology or do I have any interest in any of the companies. Just trying to help you save lots of money that would be wasted on overpriced competetive parts that do the same thing. Take it for what it is worth.

Brutis, the ATS Stage III is just the upgrade of the TQ, VB and lock up controller. Basically the same as what gdh11 has posted, less the controller. The ATS VB is a complete bolt on unit. Old unit gets returned to ATS as a corp, along with TQ, ATS pays shipping. I think the whole set-up ran me around $2300 + install ($700).
If you get the above kit for the VB from Axiom, you might want a good tranny shop to do the rebuild work and install. That is unless you know your way around an auto tranny. Still trying to figure out that sonnax valve thingy. Sounds like a part found in my hot tub?

Brutis,
I agree with the last post. Find a GOOD tranny shop that does a lot of high performance work with Chrysler trannys and you should be okay. I doubt you will get the dela I did on the labor but you will get the same pricing on the parts and even if you have to pay $700 in labor you are still looking at about $1250 for evertything. Dont thank me thank Tim Holt.

localnet- LOL mike, what kind you hot tub you got?? thanks for the info- That is what i thought it was, I like the idea of being able to control lockup, which i guess would be the down fall going with gdh11's upgrade however i am courious of the overall cost and strenght of the whole project. you know i would now consider myself a cheepskate however I really don't want to sink a heavy amount into the upgrade if I don't have to, I guess my first step is to find out exactly what kind of power I am going to end up with after the edition of my upcomming mods to my current ones. Then i will know what kind of powerplant i need to upgrade to, there are just so many ways to go.. however I have always been do it once do it right- but that is hard for me to do (this being my first tranny operation) thanks again - johnathan
gdh11- thanks again for the info- LOL would hate to run into tim in a dark alley under the wrong circumstances! and wow if that is the case with the price!! this is something that i am definately gonna look into! wish i knew someone here good with trannys, gonna ask around see what i can find OR IF ANYONE SEE THIS AND KNOWS OF SOMEONE IN SAN ANTONIO TX THAT IS A TRANNY ACE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!!! thanks george( tim holt as well) take care- johnathan
gdh11-that is what i am talkin' about!!! I have been so undecisive when it comes to my tranny what to do and what not to do- I am glad you gave me another option to look at- might save me time and also money when all is said and done! Gonna call later today and see about parts I will stay in touch and let you know how it goes.. - johnathan

Tim Holt is in Texas but I think he is in the Dallas area, but I am not really sure. Check out his website and give him a call. He is a great guy and can tell you who can help you if he cant. I am sure he knows guys in the area to do good work.
Tim holt clearly has some issues, that picture and the text is hilarious. What was his point showing that picture and talking about all their guns? Ooooh watch out, he's a bad a$$!
Clearly some people need guns to make them feel tough, and I wonder what inadequacies they feel the need to overcompensate for
