Wow! $1800 is a great price for a package that looks and "works" as BadA$$ as that!!! I called a local NTB and they quoted me $2k +/- a couple bucks out the door on the Trail Grappler LT295/295R18 on Moto Metal Skulls (9"), and that was the same price as ordering online, so I will go local. Now I just need to figure how I will pay for them. The wife is all about not taking chances with safety and saw the existing tread (or what's left of it) on what's on the truck now so even she's on my butt about it.

Well I certainly hope they work better than what I've ran in the past. I've tried Toyo M/T, ProComp Extreme M/T, BFG A/T, BFG KM2.....and got 18k miles at the most. Probably doesn't help that I drive it like a rally car!

I don't have any lift, or spacers and don't want them (well, maybe spacers) but I am curious about the replacement wheels I have chosen, and have a question maybe you or someone else can help me with. They (the replacement wheels) are 18"x9" with a 5.71" BS (18mm offset). The tire I have selected to mount on them is the 295/70R18 (11.73" wide on a 8.5" wheel). My questions are: What are the specs on the wheels you chose and do they rub at all on your control arms? My Pro Comps (315/70R17) always have rubbed but barely stick out past the fenders. I don't care if a tire rubs a steel control arm as much as I do the wheel/tire riding too far out on a bearing causing premature wear. Again, I am seriously liking the N.T.G. tires and at this point don't care about 5k miles +/- wear life, louder on-road noise or dare I say it, ride smoothness to get the extra traction I want (IT'S A FREAKIN' TRUCK FOR PETE SAKE!!!) If I am unhappy, I will choose another tire next time. None of them last forever so that part we all know is inevitable........deciding which one to stick with though is whole other subject, hey, I thought I would never stray from the Pro Comps and look at me now.....

A 9 inch wide rim with 5.71bs accomidates my 13 inch wide tire just fine and doesn't rub at all. I have a 2 inch lift.

The same wheel but I had 315/70/17 mounted to it before and it didn't even rub with no lift.

 

What about MPG's? Have any of you guys recorded a loss of MPG's running the "oversized" Nitto Trail Grapplers? I'm talking about the 34" - 35" range only.

Of course there's a loss...I was running close to 19-20 mpg on stock tires (265s). I hover around 15-16 empty round town and highway with the 35s.
Maybe it's the immaturity coming out in me...but I would make the sacrifice any day for the look and performance of the 35s (especially the NTGs)

 

I have yet to see any rubbing but honestly I've hardly driven the truck. However, I can say that they do look pretty **** sweet The combination of the tire/wheel has changed the way the truck drives and it's noticeably more responsive. Tires are very quiet and work well in the torrential downpour I drove through last night LOL. I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

Edit.....I forgot to mention that my usual city mileage with 35s has been 14-16mpg, and have never got more than 18 on the highway.

 

Hmmmm, I average 18mpg on the Pro Comps (35"), maybe it's not the faulty pedal on the floor or your physically challenged foot, but perhaps the MT's..............especially the Nittos. I wonder if the Toyo's would yeild better results.

And check this out, a set of (only 500 miles wear) 35x12.5R17 General Grabbers (the new ones with the red lettering) from a guy I know that wants to get rid of them. They used to be on his moms (no kidding) Sequoya. Said I could have them for under 800 bucks!!!!! Might have to jump on it.......

 

I'm taking a trip over to pick up my trailer from the dealer this weekend so I'll have some better numbers and more information for you guys after the road trip.

I just found out the same guy that has the general Grabbers real cheap also has a set of (under 1k miles) Nitto Terra Grapplers but they are 37". I would need a leveling kit at the very minimum to squeeze them in on the 17" wheels. I bet I could get them almost as cheap, maybe a tad bit more, but then there's the cost of the leveling kit. It's a tough choice especially with the economy being the way it is and fuel prices not dropping anytime soon. I hate to go back to A/Ts after all this M/T talk but if the price is right for 37's I don't think it's a bad trade off, and they are great tires.

Wonder what the lesser of two evils is: 35" M/Ts or 37" A/Ts in regards to MPGs..................

You said you had the Toyo Open Country M/T in the past, and thought they wore quick? And you like the Nitto Trail Grapplers better than those? Can you elaborate. I am kinda on the fence after seeing them in person now, the Toyo's that is. They are freakin awesome looking too, especially in a 37"x13.5 on black Rockstars!

 

I only got around 18k out of my Toyos, but I drive my truck like I stole it so your mileage may vary. My brother got around 30k out of a set of 37" Toyo M/T on his truck so I know they'll hold up to someone who drives decent. The thing that I like about the Nitto's is that they have a higher load rating and are considerably cheaper than the Toyo's. I figured I've tried everything else so I may as well give them a shot. Time will tell if this was a good purchase or not, but so far I like the Nittos.

As to your other question about 35 m/t vs 37 a/t.....me thinks that'd be about a wash on the highway but the smaller m/t's would likely give better city mileage.
