What a day! rant

Well what a day it is turning out to be. About 8 a.m. this morning a friend of mine came out to put on one of my extra turbos on his Mega Cab. His truck as 50XXX something miles on it. For what turned from what should have been a 2 hour project is now in its 7th hour. To start things off manifold bolts were a pain, and that went ok kind of. Now we are three hours into it and now the dang oil return line won't come out. Now its 4.5 hours into it and the oil tube still won't come out. Now 5 hours into it the oil tube came out with the help of Dawn dish soap. now 5 hours 30 seconds into it oil line broke off in block add 10 minutes found oil line an hour away. My firend goes to get tube in my truck and several codes pop up leaving it with no power. Get a tube taht may or may not work haven't seen it yet as he hasn't returned. Did get my truck starightened out just need codes cleared. Oh here he comes wiat till later for further update. Thats my rant so far.

Im guessing yall are trying to swap the turbos without unbolting the manifold from the head. That is one thing that will burn up some time it's ALOT easier on 3rd gens to take turbo off with manifold then seperate the two on the bench. The only thing that should hang you up is the coolant line bracket attached behind one of the manifold bolts, and the other is lining up the new turbo with the downpipe. 2nd gens are easy to swap with just unbolting from manifold. Don't forget to oil that new turbo up before firing it up poor a few oz. into the oil fitting hole and spin it up. Good luck hope the rest of the install goes smoothly.

I did take the manuifold off as I learnt that the first time I swapped turbos back in april. I put a larger one on than I had and he put my littler one on. We had to unbolt the oile return line to even get the manifold/turbo out. Did not take out the inner fender for it and we used WD-40 on most things.

Well once he arrived back he a universal half oile return. He was told it was a 2 peice universal part and with out a nother members oil parts before his twins top half of oil line it still wouldn't have been done. All in all it was a pain in the ***********************. Had to take the plug off my truck for the old turbo control sensor to make his go. I think I will get the new oil return setup he has its much easier to swap stuff out. I hope it all works out in the end.
