Westin step rail install problem
I went to install my new Westin step rails and found the driver side an easy install, but when switching over to the passenger side, the mounting strap just doesn't reach the mounting holes in the rocker panel.
What they do, is provide the same mounting brackets for the left and right side so the attachment point for the support strap comes off the other side and wont reach. The correct thing would have been to supply different L shaped brackets for the right and left side.
Of course Westin support knows nothing of this problem >
Anyone else with this problem?

Dodgedude361,
Were the left side and right side brackets the same? On my install I had to flip the brackets around to use on the passenger side.
I think they should have been different parts.

If I'm not mistaken the brackets are different. I remember reading that some people had to play with the brackets to get the tube and body mounts to line up correctly.

Re:Westin step rail install problem
My nerf bars went on without a hitch. I replaced some of the small bolts with grade 8.8, so they would last longer. All of the body braces in my kit were the same, but the mounting brackets were different for the front and rear of the truck. They are just reversed for the passenger side. What I did notice is that it is much easier to install the brackets if you leave all of the bolts loose at first. I left the cab mounting bolts loose until the support braces were in.
Oh...I don't have the Westin bars...I have the ones made by www.cyc-engineering.com

Hey RamDan 03,
Where did you get those bars from? Does Cyc sell directly?
Thanks,
Daren

There is a guy on Ebay (Yourwheelman) who sells them for $205 including shipping. They are really a great product for the money.
Here's a link to one of the auctions for them:

Re:Westin step rail install problem
I put my bars on, I don't remember any problems but it was best to assemble everything loose and then tighten up. Brackets had to be reversed for the passenger side and seem like I used the hole in the rocker panel that was to the right of the bracket. On the drivers side rocker panel this was in ahead of the cab mount and on the passenger side it was behind. I'll try to post a pic later.

Re:Westin step rail install problem
Gary,
That was my thought too...it seemed like the passenger side bracket was closer to the hole to the right of the bracket. I might try again and see if I can get the strap to reach that hole in the rocker panel.
If you can get a picture that would be great
