Want a little more performance.

I want a little more power for towing. I live in Az and there are hills here that go from 1000 ft to over 8000ft and I want a little more. I was looking at going with a AEM brute force air cleaner set, MBRP cool duels and the Edge with attitude with the monitor. What do you guys think? Anything else I should be looking at?

Fill out your sig so we can see what type of truck you have. So far sounds good. What are you towing?

My brother in law lives in Mesa and they go up north camping all the time with two quads in the toy hauler. He put a boost fooler on his truck and that alone made a pretty big difference. Of course he already had exhaust I guess.

I'm brand new here so what is a boost fooler and what does it do?
Is there any thing I should do before that? To prevent breakage?
Or is that along the lines of a chip?

Thanks again for any help.

I should finish reading before I post then I can answer all the questions in one.
I'm pulling a 5th wheel that weighs about 9.5-10k loaded.
I'm upgrading to a new one in a year or so that will be about 12-12.5k.
It pulls great now but I want to upgrade the truck a little before I get the new one.

Smarty jr programmer and quadzilla gauges is a good addition to the intake and exhaust you have planned if you just want a litlle power you will be ecstatic with what that would do for you.

What about the Edge programer?
I have heard good things about that.
Also would you go with the smarty jr or the regular smarty?
Can it be changed on the fly like some of the other programers?

Well I am very new to here and owning a diesel. After much consideration I purchased a Smarty Jr. I am not going to be much help because I haven't towed anything yet but I can tell you it now hauls a$$! The 100hp is great but I only run it on the 40 or 70. The only problem is it takes a LONG time to download it. MADS says 5 min but its more than that. 8-10min.

Check all the opinions on any board and people will trash the Banks, I know im guilty. The truth is if your not planning on adding any other power enhancements, EVER and dont mind paying extra since it says BANKS great big on it then that may be the one for you.

For tha green newbie I'll spell it out for ya real simple.

READ READ READ.

Use the search button and you will find out all you need.

Like not all programmers(boxes) and downloaders(DL's) are created equal or will work with others. So do your research.

The guys that like the Edge stuff (great product with lots of features and safety) are limited on higher horsepower becouse at this time the most popular DL is the smarty and they just dont compliment each other.

Look in peoples signatures and see what combos you see the most of. Thats what works best in most cases.

Right now the stack with the TST, Smarty and mp-8 together is the most popular for high horsepower guys.

So study up and do a search before you post and you might get your answer.

I hope that helps.

I've had a Smarty Jr for a wweek now. I think it is great. The throttle reponse is much improved, and the power now seems to be smoother throughout the whole Rpm range. Mine only takes 4-5 minutes to download. Fast enough that I pulled over and changed programs on the side of the road yesterday.

The Edge is great. Banks is Great. Look at the Banks air intake. In the desert there is alot of dust so you need a filter housing that is like stock to keep filter cleaning intervals like normal. The forum has been great for information. Some heated debate also.

I have a piece of property in Angel Fire. The first year I was stock and it did the job. The Ratan Pass took WOT but I was stock. Last year I had a QUAD XZT and I felt more comfortable towing especially in the passes between Angel Fire and Taos. Now I have a Smarty and am looking forward to this summer trip.

The best mod that I have made for the mountain trips is a rear sway bar. Others have already heard my story so I will not repeat but I believe the rear sway is a life saver.
