Valair DD

My stock clutch is already slipping bad with the smarty just on 3 and 5, and its time to start getting ready to buy a clutch. I've heard a lot about the valairs and was wondering how they hold up. Also I wanna know how loud they are and if they vibrate real bad or are hard to get in gear, and also how they pull. Basically I'm looking for a clutch that feels pretty close to stock, but will hold up to about 550 hp, and pulling pretty heavy sometimes. I don't want a loud rattly clutch that is hard to get into gear and is a pain to drive, but I want one that will hold up to what I need. I've heard a lot about the ofe too. Thanks for any input

All of the southbend clutches arent rattly. Have you looked at the sprung hub DD's. Petes been good to me. I know a few guys on the cummins forum are raving about them but Valair is an advertiser there. I would stick to whats known. Ask Matego how he likes his.

Ohhh... the clutch. Valair's double is a solid hub, so it would be very loud and unforgiving. His singles arent bad. If you want something quiet, get a OFE. I have had feramic and full ceramic clutches and they are very loud. The ceramic I have in now is down right absurd at idle. Everyone tells me my throwout bearing is falling apart.

I was going to get a Valair b/c everyone who has one loves it (just like SB), but I wasnt b/c of the price. Well I contacted Peter and got a DD for cheaper than what Valair sells there for so I couldnt pass it up, its now sitting in my garage waiting for next tuesday to be installed.

This is how I look at clutches.... money permitting

If you want fast shifting and good 1/4 mile times go with a Haisley Street drag. The discs are light and is not hard on the synchros.

If you want to sled pull and have a clutch that you can down right abuse well beyond what it was designed for, get a South Bend Double. They shift slow but so does a tank if you know what I mean

If you are poor (like me) and do not do boosted launches, a Valair single is a good option. I have fried my fair share of clutches and Dan always pulls through for me. Believe me, it doesnt matter what others tell you, a single can do 1-2 boosted launches MAX! One good launch welded my feramic clutch tight and I had to get a prybar and a hammer to chisel it apart along the road

Thats what Ive heard too, but dang if they aint expensive, if I had a choice thats what I would have run, but couldnt justify the extra 700 bucks to get one

Valair is a banned Vendor on this forum because of their business practises, save your money and buy a South bend or Haisley, you won't regret dealing with an honest vendor

Valiar is the cheap imatator or the Southbend clutch. Think of it as SouthBend designed and built in the USA and then Valiar copied and then cheapend up a copy cat clutch not a place to do business!!!
