Twin turbos for daily driving?
Twin turbos for daily driving?
I'm wondering if twin turbos would be to much for a daily driver? What would twins do to the reliability of the engine? I know I would have to stud the head and build the tranny and run something like the TST box. How much does a good twin turbo kit cost installed with head studs? Would a setup like this be good for towing or only good for drag racing?
When properly setup a set of twins are going to be more driveable & usable than a large single. You get the spoolup qualities of the small turbo and the flow/cooling of the big turbo. Wastegating keeps the boost and drive pressures in check. They can be setup for both racing and towing if you'd like, and you can always make adjustments to get them to perform better in a certain area. IMO having a set of twins that keeps EGTs in check is going to improve reliability over pegging the pyro on a smaller single, but I also think bombing in general reduces lifespan somewhat. The only downsides to twins are the cost and complexity of installtion and tuning, but they're more than worth it.

"Banshee" ran his 2004 Dodge CTD CR with stock headbolts for awhile before recently upgrading to the ARP 12mm head studs. You will have to keep an eye on your boost though.
I think "banshee" kept his limited to around 50lbs. before the studs were put in. He did that through the use of two (2) "blow-off" valves and an external exhaust wastegate.
