Turbo, Remove ?

Should the turbo be removed when tapping manifold for EGT probe ? I plan to install gauges this weekend ( EGT , Boost & Trans temp ). From what I've read egt probe should be installed pre turbo. Should the top or side of manifold be tapped ? Can this be done when the engine running to blow out any shavings ? Help ? Don't want to screw this up !!! Love this truck !

Thanks
Brad

I did my o1 with the turbo on
I magnatized the drill bit
And I put bearing grease on the bit,to hold the chips.
Go slow and clean often

I had my 05 done
And they did the same
I watched

I drilled and tapped mine then I started the truck and let it idle a minute, most shavings came out the hole , no problems

I drilled mine, then used a magnet to remove 99% of the shavings. The tiny bit of small metal bits aren't going to hurt the turbo. Just don't leave huge chunks in there

Thanks for the help. I think thats the way I'm going. I'm planing on tapping the top of the manifold. I don't see were the top or side would matter.

Grease the drill bit and tap which will help catch a few more of the shavings.

I am looking at doing this same thing in the next few months.

Does anyone have a link to a website with some pictures. It sure makes us stoopit people feel better ( or at least it makes me feel better about what I'm doing) when we have some pictures to look at!

On Edit: Thats not my truck in the pic, I did a random google search and came up with that but mine looks very similar. It's really not very hard to install just take your time and make sure you have the right size drill bits and tap.

Did mine w/o removing the manifold. I used vaseline on both the drill bit and tap. While drilling and tapping I would frequently stop and remove any shaving with my telescoping tip magnet. After I was complete I gave it a final sweep with the magnet then started it up. Be sure to use a bit of anti-sieze on the threads of the sensor. When you're done you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

I use the grease on the bit and i place a magnet on the manifold next to where the hole is being drilled, but if you start the truck rite before the drill breake thru, there is enought ex manifold pressure at idle to keep all trash out, leave it running while you tap the hole.

Note: Wear Goggles, and gloves while tapping
