Turbo comments?

Looking for some advice on a turbo upgrade. I'm running an 04.5 with intake, exhaust, ej/a, 90hp inj, boost fooler and just had a air dog II put on. I'm also running analong gauges so I'm not just reading what the ecm is throwing to my ej/a. Anyways now my egts are shooting through the roof as soon as I get on it and I've never had a problem with that. Thinking I need a turbo upgrade to help push some air. I've never really had much for boost (22-24psi max), which I know is low. I've chased a boost leak and never found one. Ended up clamping down the waste gate and got a little more but don't really like the idea of jerry riggin it. Then was told I needed to feed the 90hp injectors so threw on the air dog. So I'm looking for some solid advice on a turbo or what is actually going on with the truck. The only code I've pulled is an over boost code, if that says anything. Appreciate the help, thanks.

what turbo do you have on it now the he341?
What do you want to do with the truck? drag race, tow, tow heavy, just play around.
which transmission do you have? manual or auto? auto is it built? do you have a tight converter?

I assume it is an 04, is it 4wd, DRW, oversize tires?
what altitude do you normally drive at?

it all matters when selecting a turbo

might want to fill out your sig

Stock over S475...
Ask me how I know?
I had a larger single and thought it was better until I put the twins on..

I'm looking to get the full potential out of the truck with the mods that I have done. The truck is my daily driver, so I need it to be reliable yet be able to get on it when I need to. I also pull a 7x14 enclosed trailer for work on a fairly regular basis. I'm running the truck at about a mile high. Take it to the mountains for the occasional weekend. Not sure what turbo is in there now, just know it is stock.

I agree with JP-4.5, a stocker over a s475 would work well and you would be really happy with it. I know it's more $ then a single, but it is better to do it once right.

Joe

FYI you have a HE351 on your truck now.

nope, you don't need head studs to start, just keep your boost reasonable. under 50-55 you shouldn't have any problems.

that being said, it is cheap insurance.

Something isn't working properly if you only see 22-24 psi of boost, something is limiting it. If it's an 04.5 it should be making 28-32 stock, and close to 40 with the E J/A turned up.

90hp sticks are not small on a CR, and will need some air to cool them. If you tow and want to have the 500ish rwhp cool you probably want twins.

The stocker/S475 is a good setup, but you need to find out why your stocker isn't making boost or your not really helping anything.

With your low boost, stock turbo, 90's, and a E J/A I am not surprised your running hot!

As far as studs... I have studs and my current setup doesn't go over 32...

If you spend some time reading threads, you will learn theat the E J/A tends to run hotter EGT's. With your boost level, would run hotter too, and the 90's don't help either.

I ran hotter than I liked or wanted to with a stock turbo due to altitude, had I increased fueling, it would have been even hotter.

I started with a big single, but altitude is just not where you want to run a big single, so I went to twins. I run a 62~475, VERY daily drivable, no studs-not really needed unless you are boosting big-time, keep the boost under 50, I am usually running around 40-42, very low egt's now, rarely go over 850 and thats even pulling grades of 6% or greater, lots of power.

S475 is popular.. But it depends on what you want to do with it. A S471 or S468 would make a great set of tow twins.
