Turbo boiling Battery???

haha, so the passenger battery boiled on me, two different batteries, optima red tops. Yes, I have used the search function and read lots, checked the connections, with ohm meter. It charges 14.7 right after fire up, which is good. Makes no sense to me how it charges the passenger side first as there are tied together with a common positive cable, they are hooked is series as i see it, however no one ever called me smart........

So here is the kicker, took it into dodge to get some warranty stuff done and asked them to change the tempurature sensor under the drivers side battery, but they said it is the Borg warner S474 turbo that is mounted beside it causing it to boil from the heat of it, so they built me a horrible looking heat shield, I dont believe that is the problem so I havent bought another battery to try it yet.

Basically has anyone ever heard of that issue?? Hot turbo causing a battery to boil?? I booked the truck in again to finish up some stuff as it is coming off waranty, and have asked them to change that sensor out of piece or mind for me, then I'm planning on buying 2 new batteries and puttting them in.

Any input or comments please.........

Make sure all the connections on both Batteries are clean and tight...

I have read that the + cable going to the Drivers side has caused this problem more the 1 time...

Yes, the turbo can boil the battery. My Merkur XR4Ti would do it. I went through several batteries in little over a year. Built a heat shield between the battery and turbo and the issue went away.

Your temp sensor under the drivers battery could be bad, or you probably have a bad connection or cable.

With your twins it might be possible, but I would expect it to be a much larger issue for lots of people??

Cool

i have the same prob on both my trucks. right side batt. wet on top.05&06 3500's . i work both ,sometimes driven 600 miles pullin 53' wwedge trailer. i figure its the turbo throwing too much heat on it. replaced several batt's on both trucks. gonna make a heatshield when i get a chance.Or a blanket for the batt.

Glad im not the only one to have heat troubles, thought it was all a bunch of hog wash, but maybe not, still gonna replace that sensor and build a heat shield before i replace that battery again
