TST reflash

Just got my TST box back from being reflashed to get rid of single ping/knock noise on deceleration,
reflash is apparently a whole new program on chip cause setting 8-8 dont have the kick my box used to have on 4-2 or 4-4 I miss the kick it used to have, I would be happy with a program somewhere in between the old program and this new reflashed program.
I will say EGTs are no longer an issue but that is a side effect of power and I dont have as much any more...

If anyone whom was concerned about buying a TST box cause they might break something... I dont think that is an issue any more...Not enough power on new box program

I noticed the same thing. What a bummer. I ran around on 5/5 previously. Now, with the new program, it is 7/6 for daily driving, and still not quit as powerful. TST updated the info on their web site with a claim of 180hp. I would be very surprised if we get close to that with the new program. Most noticeable difference to me is in the torque settings. Kind of wimpy compared to the old.

I may approach TST and ask if they are willing to reflash with the old program for those that didn't have issues with it. My only issue was a P0336 code, but can live with that.

I wouldn't mind something right in the middle of the old program and the new one.
But if I cant get that I would definetely like my old program back!

Same here. If I had to guess, I would say I am missing close to 40% of the torque below 2K RPMs, right where I need it. I definitely miss it. Those who like to tow in overdrive will notice the change the most. The overall gains may be the same, but you definitely have to wind it up now to get to the good power. Doesn't have the bottom end grunt it use to. What's funny is I was talking to Mark on Thursday, but didn't even think to bring it up.

At least it will be gentler on turbos now.

Thanks AK,

Now I find this thread and my TST is already in the air. At least if it sucks it's returnable.

Let us know gypsyman. I'm thinking about upgrading to the TST if there is a noticeable difference...

Wish I could!!! If the TST is as smooth as the VA and can still give more power I'll be selling it and running the TST for a while. At the rate I'm going I may end up trying all but the DR "P" stuff.

Well I just got back from The Reno BBQ Rib cook off and I am definetely FAT and HAPPY now
Towed my 10,000 lb 5er over the mountain for first time with new TST program and I have to say

For towing I have just as much pulling power throughout the rpm to do 75+ over mountain as the old program and since the power rolls on smoother I am not slippin clutch while towing, AND THE EGTs are WAY WAY WAY more controllable than with the old program!

But when not towing I still miss the head jerking power of old program
All in All I will keep the new program.

I am glad to hear that report. I have my box out being reflashed right now. I like the aggressive program but the 48RE does not. I am trying to make the transmission last until next spring. I really miss the power on the highway without the TST box.

I just got back from a 3,000 mile trip through the mountains as well. This was my first good run with the new TST program and yes, I too felt the power of the beast that I feared was gone. Running up mountain passes, I could pull those hills as fast as I wanted. I mean I left everyone and did most of my passing while going straight up. You should have seen the looks. I hit a few passes at 65mph, got into the steep climb and mashed the go pedal, and it still accelerated like a mad bull going straight up from 1,500 RPMs in high gear. Power felt the same as the old program.

The changes that they made to the fuel delivery were more noticeable on this trip and I gotta say I think I like. Before, on a trip like this, I could step on the go pedal at say 65mph (TST on 5/4) and it would hit hard, instantly MAXing the turbo and laying you back in the seat. Now, same scenario, it takes about a second and a half for the turbo to spin up (versus instantly) while the duration is gradually being extended to MAX. Makes for real smooth acceleration. Turbo likes it better to. Playing around in town, if I stab it to 2500RPMs, the whiplash effect is still there.

EGTs definitely rise slower, but they seem to stop at about the same spot for me if I really use the go pedal.
