Trying a SMARTY out?

I may have the chance to try a smarty on a trip (1500-2000 miles) and wondered what setting would be recommended for hauling a 9000lb 5er with a 2006, slt, quadcab, auto with cia and 4 inch performance exhaust.
Thoughts

With a stock tranny, I wouldn't run it on more than sw1 with the camper in tow. Anything else and you are just asking for trouble.

I've read not to run SW1, its a mileage tune and has just a bit more timing than the rest.

I'd run 3 and take it easy.

9000lbs in tow/stock tranny/60 extra hp = asking for trouble

I thought I could have run the tow setting on the jr with out problem? Is their one that is close to that? I guess it sounds like the smarty is not for a guy like me, its confusing I guess I assumed that I could not be running 9 or anything but there would be some that matched the jr.

I suggest you frag the stock trans and get it over with!
Once it is fixed you can tow as hard as you want (egt's need watching).

We all do it sooner or later...Resistance is futile!

I, personally, don't think you will have any problems, as long as your not stupid about it, to run it on 3. It pretty much matches the XZT tow module, or am I missing something?

I also heard that SW1 is not for towing since it has aggressive timing. I think 3 would also be your best bet.

Sure, sw3 is similar to the xzt. I'm telling you that is borrowed time. I have an 8500lb camper. Before I did my tranny I was trying to tow on the 60hp setting on the Juice and it started slipping the TC.

These guys that are telling you to go ahead don't have to pay to fix your tranny if it starts acting up. Play it safe if you don't have some extra $$$ around to build the tranny.

all of our trucks are manual but we have towed very heavy with the jr on economy with out a problem , our mods are for higher mpg's nearly all of the mods added torque and hp with out adding fuel , enough that a stock auto will fail that is why we bought with manual only , they are correct you might as well rebuild in now

Sweet, I may have to try that. although I doubt I'll see much of an increase since the rest of my mods are anti-fuel mileage friendly (including my foot)

Amazing what you find if you click the wrong link.
"Software number One,
The Fuel Saver software. Mpg gains vary, in most cases a + 2Mpg has been
reported.
Please notice that the timing in this software is rather aggressive.
HEAVY TOWING is not recommended with this software."

He has a 6 speed w/aftermarket clutch, not an auto. Do you still think he's pushing it? If so, than every programmer/downloader out there would be useless to anyone that tows!

Quick question on the aggressive timing with the smarty.
I don't know much about what timing does to get better fuel economy & how that would be detrimental to towing....would someone enlighten me?
