Truck Tent....

G'day guys,

I have heard that there are custom Dome Tents which fit directly into the bed of the Trucks. Do they make one specifically for the RAM (either direct through Dodge or Aftermarket).

Any experience with them? Is it better to get one with a "floor" or without.

Cheers,

Batts

P.S. A shot from camping on the weekend, you can see why i want to do more of it!

Check with some companies like Campmor, Cabela's, or any other company that specializes in camping equipment. I have never used that type of tent but the ones I have seen in the catalogs had floors in them. I would think that a floor would ensure you stayed dry but if the rain fly covers the bed properly you may not need a floor.

One problem I can see is that you will need some steps to get in and out of the tent. Crawling in and out without the aid of steps will wear out the bottom of the entrance quickly.

When you check, I think you'll find that some of the tents actually have a room attached and the bed is used for a sleeping area.

The one you want is the Sportz Truck Tent, it comes in two sizes, one for longbeds, one for shortbeds. I've had one for 4-5 years, used it on three different trucks, the things's awesome.

So how hot was it at the gorge when you took the picture??? The color must have been from the smoke from the fires?

Batts,
Beaughtiful picture, makes me proud to be a CTD owner in America, also love the tires and rims , really fills the fender-wells (are those tires "E" rating?)

Have you ever thought of getting a small slide-in camper? Northstar makes slide-in campers (pop-up) that are light enough for a 2500.

For $11,875.00 you can get a decent trailer and still have the bed for storage.

In 1999, I bought a new Sun-Lite, 8' camper for my truck. $5200 new with no air, potty or shower. I took it to Colorado a couple of times and used it in cool weather down here. I would pull my stock trailer with the ATV and other gear. If I could reach it, I would have kicked my rear a hundred for selling it.

I'm actually considering one of those truck tentz to "just have" for those occasions when I dont feel like the hassel of pulling the 5'er, or having to make sure we have reservations.......its not an expensive option to have.
