Triple Turbos on EFI Live by Les Szmidt
Triple Turbos on EFI Live by Les Szmidt
Had my triple turbocharger set up by a guy recommended to me. The 5 tunes felt laggy - thought it was just my set up, asked about it and was told it was my set up as well. The other thing was the tunes didn't feel that much difference between 3, 4 and 5. So I just used the truck on tune 4 - not much point in using the other tunes. I continued to drive, theorizing about how to get more "oomph".
Because the other tuner wasn't very helpful on email about what to do next (put very little effort into answering my questions, if at all), I emailed Les, asking him about different options I was considering - each of which involved spending more money (I.e. Re-gearing the diffs).
He answered every question and told me to not spend anymore money, and just let him do new tunes.
Installed them yesterday and I am nothing short of shocked.
Turbos spool so fast...not laggy whatsoever. Engine runs smoother (no injector crackle). My truck tows my trailer like it's not even there. Now I'm interested to see what happens to fuel economy.
I have only tried the first three tunes (stock, 12V/economy, street) and they are extremely different from one another. The second tune makes the truck actually sound like it is a 12 valve - kind of funny!
The third tune is so strong I am a bit nervous to try #4 (hot) and #5 (race).
As well, I can tell the new tunes are more dynamic: the EGT's don't simply keep pace with boost, as did my previous tunes.
Anyway, just wanted to let people know that there's a big difference in the tuner that you choose. Take it from someone who has tried two different tuners.
in my opinion, I would send anyone to Les Szmidt in a heartbeat.

...and that's the thing. The first guy I had was called a "good tuner"...came recommended.
I REALLY liked how Les addressed all of my questions, took me seriously. And saved me money - the cost to regear my diffs? Ouch.
But when the first guy told me it was my setup - it didn't sit right. I mean, 0.89 AR on the turbines and not huge compressors? Should be acceptable spool even on a stock tune.

Umn... Maybe I should apologize in advance… The fuel economy may be a little while coming. These new tunes are like a $3000 bottle of scotch. So smooth...and I'm a little drunk on the power...

Les is a true master when it comes to EFI tuning. I'm still very impressed with mine several months down the road.
I was also very impressed by his initial willingness to answer questions, even after stating that I was a few months away from making the purchase.
Good business practice always comes back around.

Les setup my new Autocal, put it in yesterday and so far it's been great, makes power without all the smoke.
Anxious to try it this weekend when we hook up the trailer and hit the hills.
