Trans issues after upgrades...help!

Trans issues after upgrades... help!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My local trans guy installed Goerends TC/VB along with some billet pieces in my 48re. When he did a test drive, it wasn't shifting correctly. It shifted way to soon and when it tried to go into 3rd, I believe, it went into neutral? Or something like that.
Anyway, Dave Goerend has been very good in trying to find a solution to the problem, so I'm not knocking anybody just yet.
I just want some opinions/experiences with those who've solved this situation. I've been reading about valve bodies for days now, with some having issues with 05's and others who have not.
Thanks in advance.

Ya cut your losses and go buy a Suncoast or do what everybody else does rebuild it 3 times and then do it right.

What do you mean huh? Do it right the first time and buy a Suncoast. When you upgrade some of the parts your just passin the potential problems onto the next part in line that you diden't replace.

What the?????

I'm sure he appreciates your help but how do you think the new parts would have broken the stock parts on the test run??

Sounds like a valve body problem to me.....

What are you a suncoast dealer, I have read numerous post in the past where you bash everyone else's transmissions. He wasn't asking what type of trans to buy he was asking for help for the one he has, so unless you can help him with his quit bashing his decision....

Well I know all kinds of guys who go out and replace parts or rebuild their trannies because some dude down at mom and pops tranny, nail, and haircare center says he can "rebuild it to be bulletproof". I am just saying do it right the first time and by a proven product, that you know will last. But most people have to learn it the hard way.

If the Tranny is locking up early the tranny will jump to 3rd and skip second. To prevent this you usually have to have tow/haul or od turned off. I've seen some sites saying "loosing 2nd you need a billet kickdown lever". Not all valve body kits give the same results so you will have to work with the one you got. Talk to JCroman. ks

Hey man everyone has different opinions on this site Im not saying buying a Suncoast and will never have another problem but the chance goes down, also I have never bashed anyone's tranny including Mr. trik396, and I am not a Suncoast dealer I sell Insurance. However I was in the same shoes as Mr.trik396 and wasted alot of money trying to rebuild my tranny in my old truck, but after I bought a entire aftermarket tranny I never had a problem again.

JD, not sure what you're talking about, but you got a strange way of trying to get your point across.
If I wanted to order up a fully built trans, I would. I wanted what I got, it's just there's a hang up with the valve body. My guy is going to do what he knows best... his way of modifying MY valve body.. and I'll see how it shifts then.
btw- Billet flexplate, billet input, billet triple disc convertor, shift lever, Kolene steels, Blue clutches and a ton of other stuff I'm not fluent enough about to mention... should be plenty stout for my needs...

Alright, I understand what you are saying JD, it's just the way you said it. It sounds like you are bashing his choice.

I, for one, initially bought just a DTT converter and valve body and had no issues when I decided to get the full trans done. I had just reached a point where I would be breaking something if I didn't upgrade. The problems he's describing are not caused by only getting part of the trans upgraded. There's definitely a problem there that didn't exist before the upgrade so somewhere along the way something went wrong. I'm sure we will all agree with that.

Now, what the problem is, is the question........

The advantage of buying a built tranny is that the tranny was tested prior to shipment to the installer.

The advantage of buying a tranny from a competent builder is that the tranny is built and tested on the actual truck that will be running it.

Trik396, If Dave can't help fix your tranny immediately then no offense but then you have a problem. Did he modify the tranny using a 48re kit or a 47re kit. The plate between the halfs of the vb in a 47 kit is changed and the plate is kept on the 48re. What was the line pressure at idle? IF the pressure is over 80 then it might be the plate if he changed it. IF he didn't change the plate then did he change the kickdown lever? The kick down lever on the 48re need not be necessarily changed in ratio.
I am far from a tranny tech or expert....just going through the check list of what I've heard and seen firsthand. Where are you located? ks
