Tranny Guru's ???
I'm gonna be getting my tranny worked on soon & wanted to know: If I will be doing about 450 HP, towing about 8K lbs. 2 x's a mo.& no boosted launches, do I REALLY need all the bells & whistles or could I just do a TC,VB, flexplate & associated hardware? What do ya'll suggest for about $4,000? TIA
I know of a truck with over 700hp that still has the stock flexplate and sledpulls. Sure, he might be in the minority, but it just goes to show that a lot of money is spent on these trucks just because everyone jumps on an idea like it is fact. At 450hp, if you have your tranny parts put in at a shop familiar with our trucks and have them check allignment and squareness of the TC to the flexplate and bellhousing to the block, you will be fine. Most of the flexplate problems occur do to improper alignment. If you do want to go with a flexplate, check out this website and the one they sell. It is not a two piece laminate as the other non-bilet ones out there. It is actually made of one piece so it is stronger. It is SFI stamped - which is not easily attained and therefore means it's a very good product. It's what I recently got for my truck and it is very inexpensive compared to the other options out there. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm

If you have tools, buddy's, and beer. You can install the tranny and converter in a day easy. Also, call around to a lot of the big tranny builders. You can get a fully built tranny minus the intermediate and output shaft for just a little more than $4600.
I was told for about 3500 you could get alot of stuff and it would hold up to alot. I was told by a builder that some trucks with stock clutches and just upgrades have held up very well. I think its true you dont need all the billet stuff unless you are gonna drag race or sled pull. I know the converter & valve body does make a big difference in all trucks I have rode. my stock tranny was not very good. with upgrades it was alot better
I, too, thought it was very expensive. The only benefit is they are right down the street, but I'm not willing to pay a couple grand extra 'cause they are right down the street. Has anyone had any problems w/ their Goerend equiped trannies? I ask 'cause I will pretty much be my own warranty dept..
I can't remember of hearing one bad word about Goerend. I would recommend their tranny. Shifts a little former than stock when driving normal, when getting on it, it throws you back in the seat. Well that and the Smarty. So far it has been great.
Last weekend, i got the DTT Converter, VB, Billet Input, Billet Flexplate, Shift Enhancer, 2nd and 3rd gear stuff, billet piston and accumulator, and a few other do dads for $4200 installed....it's freakin awesome!
