towing over 10k, Smarty levels 3 & 5?

Who tows about that much with the tuner on 5? I am sure 3 is fine & dandy, but I wonder if level 5 is too. I don't think that is much weight for a Cummins and there are no seriously hardcore grades. I towed the trailer to my house on level 7, power was great and EGT's were low as heck.

Tips/ideas?

Thanx.

I towed my 2-car race trailer (about 12-13k) on 7, even over some decent grades. EGTs were great and the power was nice to have, so other than being hard on the tranny, I think you can use your foot to modulate EGTs if they become a problem.

backhoe, all the time with mine set on 9 and the egts a never got over 1400
with a stock turbo pulling 75 mph.I bough a htt64/71/14 from triton and i dont even have to look at the pyro.I leave mine set on kill all the time just in case i run across a ford.

Wholly frijoles! Level 9. I may just try level 7. If I am not comfortable, I can just go down a level. It is no like loading the Superchips or Diablo, Smarty takes like 5 minutes.

Thanx.

With that much weight, to be safe I would put it on #1, and pull away.

I am going to have to try it. I am going camping w/the fam. for a few days tom. As soon as I return, I want to install the Airdog 150. Then I will feel comfy running all the Smarty can give me all the time.

Thanx.

There are essentially 3 perameters to concern yourself with when towing with high HP. First is egts and the tranny's ability to hold the power. Lastly is overloading your coolant temps. If all three of those are ok, then tow as high a weight as the law will allow on the smarty sw of your choosing! FWIW, I use sw 7 to tow.

Don't pull on #1. Its a mileage program and the timing is just a bit too advanced for towing. There were a couple threads on here about it and doesn't it mention this in the Smarty manual? I can't remember and my legs acting up so I'm not feeling like walking to get the box in my room.

I pulled a 10K lbs car hauler on level 5. On the hills, I could/would hit 1300-1400 and have to back it off. But other than EGT management, it pulled fine. Of course, the driveline vibs from a stand still were killing me, but that wasn't due to the Smarty.

I use beta 4.4 sw 5 for towing about 10000lbs works great recently just went to the dec 13th program running sw 7 i think at these levels if you dont use throttle control other driveline parts will be a risk
what soulezoo sounds about right
