Topic Killed Yes But Tired of Using Search....
Ok its time for some new tires on the dually. Basically wondering what tire size will give me the highest gear ratio using a 285 tire and not expecting to have to put a spacer in the duals either. So far I have figured out that a 285/75 will give me the highest gear ratio of 6% more without having to go any wider in tire size. So far the only tire I know of that comes in this size is the Toyo M/T and A/T but i was planning on staying away from the M/T tire, love the tire but not gonna give me the most mileage and throws too many rocks. I was really looking at the Toyo Open Country M55 for tire wear and just enough aggressiveness for a 50/50 balance of on and off roading as I am employed in the oilfield. Not sold on the looks of it though either. Give me some input on tire brand and what you dually owners are running for tire sizes. Kind of hoping to maybe make my 6th gear a little taller than it is stock if it is at all possible. Thanks
Just had a look at those and believe it or not Nitto rates those tires the best in just about every category over the other 3 big ones they sell (Dune,Mud,Terra Grappler) surprised me. What are the tires like overall, will they last?
Have them on my 2500 4x4..........pricey, but seem well worth it so far. More time will tell for sure. If they can get 60,000 miles out of them, it will be worth it in my opinion. Have about 15K on them now. They need rotated, but are wearing even across the tread. Fronts have worn a bit more than rears.....maybe 2 - 3/32 more than the rears. They have a little bit of a squirmy feeling to them too. Didn't take long to get used to it, but the taller tire with tall tread allows them to flex quite a bit. Nice smooth ride overall though. Also, I have the 285's too.
I run the Durra grapller on both my 01 3500's in a 235/85/16.So far the wear is excellent. Both trucks weigh in at 18K+ GVWR daily.I expect to get between 40-45K miles out of them.I have ran Michelin LTX's in the past and got around 45k out of them so these are running a close race. They have an extremely stiff sidewall, makes for a rough ride.No squirmy feeling but they are the factory size. They do suck in the mud but I didn't buy them for that.
