Took the HEAD OFF today..PICTURES*****

So far it looks like most of the intake valves have "made contact" with the tops of the pistons at some point...

Most of the pistons have a little build up of carbon on them as well as the head surface.
The #6 six in the pictures has alot of carbon build up which I cleaned off.

There is some pitting on the tops of some of the pistons from overfueling.

All of the cylinders have some lines but they cannot be felt by finger nail or tip.

Engine has 32k miles.

I am going to take the head apart and inspect the valves to make sure they are straight. I will also be installed a new set HD valve springs to prevent contact again

The headgasket is in *decent* to good shape but thats about it. It is in the early stages of coming apart around the cylinder edges.

I also bottom tapped all of the block holes.

What was the issues you had, that you took her down?
It looks pretty good really. Tough to tell in pictures I guess.
If it did hit the valves, be very careful. I have seen the heads come off after contact. I can't say for sure on the B engine. But most valves the head is actually seperate from the stem. I believe they are spun welded, for lack of a better term, together.

Ahh. So that way your valves hit your pistons harder?

Blue,
The new springs should prevent that.

Really what I think my engine could use is a 10k lb. trailer pull for about 500 miles to burn all the carbon out.

The truck is just a grocery getter other than sledpulling about 10 times a year.

You can see the spray patterns on the piston tops real well.

If you have the head off, why don't you drill and tap the block for 14mm head studs? Can't you change valve springs without removing the head? Who's cam and valve springs are you going with? Good luck with the upgrades I did my cam install a couple weeks ago with the head on. It was actually not that bad of a job. Keep us updates!
