Tone Ring Mod?

Can the ring be rotated too far? Or, are the bolt a limiting factor? I did mine yesterday and was wondering if it can turned too far.

If you have a lot of rattle, you went too far. Every truck seems to be different so if you aren't hearing a bunch of rattling I'd say you are OK. Soem guys are even hogging out the bolt holes to get even more timing. I ended up having to turn mine back some because I was getting too much rattle for my liking...

I only noticed rattle when cold and really not too much more than usual. Not at all when warmed up. It did feel alittle weeker at RPM's over 2k though. Is that what you noticed also? Maybe in my head?
Thanks

I feel more power on the bottom end with the mod. I initially turned the ring backwards and felt a power loss. Are you sure you spun it the right way? It's real easy to screw up when you are laying upside down....

It really just depends on the truck. My buddy is running an EZ with the tone ring moved all the way and he doesn't have any timing rattle at all.

Mine is stock. The first time I advanced to 2.17 degrees and had rattle and still picked up .5 mpg. Then I went back to .110" or 1.57 degrees and picked up another .5 mpg and engine sounds happier and running more freely - I'll leave it there. Both adjustments were just random choices but I measured with a dial indicator for reference. Craig

I moved mine about 3/4 of 1 tooth...2-3 degrees I guess....Great mileage...I dunno what you guys would think of it, but I think it sounds awesome....My truck definitely doesnt sound like the virgin 325 dually at work....Sounds better to me....Several people have comments on its "industrial" tone

(still trying to learn what all the little sounds are, and what you guys mean by rattle, ping, etc...)

I wish we could adjust the timing while the engine is running......That would be nice Cough Cough Quad Ahem Cough

The 2003 HO's have quite a bit of advance already. I put mine back to stock.
